I was surprised with my last rental at Hertz that when I picked up the car it was a VW Golf wagon and that the manager gave his greetings to me as I was walking around inspecting the vehicle for any blemishes.

Is there some sort of effort being made at Hertz to keep customers after the changes in vehicle classes last year?

Never got a personal welcome but I do get plenty of upgrades and that's enough to make me a happy customer :)

In Perth a month or so ago, I got a VW Golf (not wagon) as a base model car. I was pleasantly surprised.

Where was this? I know the manager at SYD domestic, very proactive & friendly... sounds like him!

The VW is the same class as a Corolla, ie up from Yaris then Corolla manual.

I had originally booked a Yaris. I usually get an upgrade being five star, but not always (take note Hertz ADL).

It was the first time I have driven with DSG. It was appallingly rough in the heavy traffic, but wonderful otherwise - an eye opener for me.
