I know that there isn't any soft landing to WP from WP1, but if there was it would surely get people much more excited to get to WP.

I got the 50% extra SC offer today but it just doesn't seem worth it to get to WP1 unless you get a soft landing to WP.

Your thoughts? Would it make WP1 much more attractive to you?

I'm pretty certain there is a soft landing from WP1 to WP.

There is indeed. IMHO the idea of getting there solely on the back of a 50% bonus status credit offer seems like a massive effort/ expense for very little return (unless the flights would have been booked and flown regardless of any such offer).

Otherwise it is more of a free fall from quite a height.
Every now and then you read a discussion on Flyertalk about AA dropping the soft landing, but it would be a big call to make by an airline.

Yet in the hotel game Hilton has no problem dropping you from Diamond to Blue if you don't requalify.

As was posted a little while back:

If a Platinum One member is unable to attain 3,600 Status credits (including a minimum 2,700 on QF marketed Flights) in their next membership year, they will be automatically reassessed to the Platinum level regardless how many status credits they earned. Hope this helps. :)

Not sure if that is what you meant but I'm pretty sure AA in fact has dropped the soft landing.

As was posted a little while back:

Makes sense given QF look at your last three years activity, one year of WP1 will make your average for the three above that required for WP.

Being relatively new I realise that my next status is Platinum + not WP1, sorry for the confusion.

The soft landing approach is one of the smartest features of the QFF program, very few others offer it. It's somewhat akin to a status match or I guess a "safety net". A remnant maybe of a time when there was genuine competition.

I wonder what percentage of QF revenue comes from government business and how many WP's are on the government payroll? I guess another question is how many WP's have earned it from travel paid for by themselves as distinct from their employer? My guess is that those who have earned it from their own pockets are very much in the minority.

That actually implies two years' worth of soft landings if the three years are equally weighted.
