Soap Thieves - don't feel guilty ........

Only shampoo etc I have ever taken with me, in, er, multiple forms was the orange oil and honey (separately) fragranced stuff from a Riad in Marrakesh. I went hunting for something similar in the supermarkets there, to no avail; even asked the Riad for their supplier (complex, non useful explanation).

Sod the guest room Buzz ... this was too good for them ;)

I always take something....but more often than not the shampoo/conditioner is shyte so I avoid. I love the little travel toothbrush packs though / shower caps etc.

So many hotels have downgrades their amenity kits though to save costs. :(

How long have we been sampling soaps?

Wish i'd kept my Cathay ones from the 80's (in the green and gold paper wrappers). I do have the playing cards still (remember when airlines used to hand them out to people that asked, even Qantas did). Might be time to go diving through my junk boxes to see if I have some.

I take them home with me every time (I love travel-sized *anything*). Once I hit maximum levels in the bathroom I donate the excess to a local women's refuge - my workplace does a "toiletries drive" once a year to collect for them.

Yep me too I'm guilty! The slippers also I can't help grabbing on my way out... I've a couple of friends who love them so have to keep levels up in case a favor is needed :D

Im a slipper stealer and then I use them on med/long hauls. Cant have my feet show up in a AFF shame photo so I wear clean socks and slippers for walking.

We were big slipper collectors as well. The problem with that is we travel mostly in Asia and their slippers tend to be on the small size. We recently have sold our house and with packing I found we had 20 pair of slippers (still in plastic bag) so they went to the local mission. As for the all the soaps, shampoos etc... I threw out all the soaps (about 20) and also disposed of about 50 bottles of Shampoo's etc.. I am sure some of these went back 20 years or so.

However the big thing we still collect now is shower caps and nail files. These are always useful with a wife and 2 x daughters.

I collect anytjing and everything especially from nicer hotels. I'm guilty of taking one or 2 face towels.

I take and use the soaps shampoos etc as well as the sewing kits (keep one at work) and particularity like the shoe shine kit.

Don't bother with the shower caps given my hair is rapidly receding.

Using these products does remind me of where I've been and the good times I've had so it's worth it to the hotel.

I feel like this is confession.

Guilty of taking a razor or 2 from the FL on my way out of SYD.

Ok there I said it! (not sure I feel any better though)...

markis, sorry for being slow - do they actually recycle used soap??

I absolutely loved the shampoo and conditioner provided at The Rim Hotel in Chiang Mai last year. It was a boutique property and the products were their own brand, all natural and fabulous. They were provided in a dispenser so there was no chance to take them home. My eyes lit up when I saw them for sale in the foyer, but at $32 a bottle it felt like a huge rip off in Thailand. We were paying $100 a night for the room, a meal in their restaurant for for 3 was $25, I just couldn't understand the $32 price tag and I came home empty handed.

I take any half-used soaps and shampoos, on the assumption that they would otherwise be wasted. To take anything else is a form of petty theft, though it seems some hotels have given up and try to turn it into an opportunity to appear generous.

What? No way is it theft. It's part of the room rate.

From the article

Quote, "But if those toiletries do make their way into your own bathroom, know that you’re not the first" Unquote

They may go to needy communities, but who knows where they really go

I still
don't even want to think about using 2nd hand soap
