Hey guys..

Im stranded on 465 Status Credits.

I lose SCs on the following days.
12th Nov - 20
22nd Nov - 20

I have the following travel booked;
13th Nov - MEL to BNE - 15 SCs
14th Nov - BNE to MEL - 30SCs

So that means I miss out by 2 days at the start and 10 points at the end..

Any chance of getting comped?
Any advice from anyone to get to gold?

I did check on upgrading fair up to BNE to L but cost is $190 out of my own pocket which I dont think is worth it...

Your help is appreciated.

Changing your MEL-BNE flight to a Flexi will guarantee that you hit Gold, so IMO that's definitely worth the $190. The alternative is that you cross your fingers and hope to get comped but I wouldn't be relying on that to happen.

Just go for a flight anywhere between the 14th and 20th to lock it in, use the rewards special to get home, either that or change the MEL to BNE to go via another port, OOL is often cheaper

This may sound harsh but.....

If it is not worth $190 it is not worth getting Gold. I am certain many AFFers spend more $$$ & points maintaining or climbing the status ladder.

I would value getting status on most airlines at a lot more than $190.

I have witnessed some of the economy queues on Tiger and Jetstar recently in SYD T2 and it isn't fun at all.

Ditto. I took my brother in for his first lounge visit before his flight home and I'm sure he must of got through $190 worth of Fat Yak on that visit alone*

Its certainly worth $190 for Complimentary Membership to the Lounge which is $300 a year for Silver.

Have you ever lost any SC's into the 'Black Hole'? I'm sure I've read that falling short on requalifying date, some have managed to request the SC's back out of the "Black Hole". YMMV.

Probably blasphemy but I would be trying to minimise my flying time more than $$$ to reach gold.
Precious weekend or personal time should be valued at least double your working pay rate though easier said than done.

Bear in mind, even though most of us would value gold at higher than $190, not everyone is the same (in fact only recently someone else stated they'd prefer 2 x silver memberships as they could not see any value in gold over silver). It does seem a simple proposition. Pay the amount needed to gain gold, or don't. If you don't, you may be lucky enough to be comped gold (there are numerous anecdotes supporting that possibility) or alternatively, you may remain as silver. Only you can decide if there's value for you in achieving gold.

It may also pay to check your future flying schedule and compare to when your SCs fall off. SCs are on a rolling year basis so even if you miss gold this time, future flying may be able to bounce you up there.

For anyone that's interested I got bumped on 490 SC's!!!!!

It's a nice surprise and not expected at all - I resigned to gaining gold in the new year!
