So good QANTAS. Well done.

there is a chance that the re-assigned pax got an op-up....

Whilst I'm happy for the OP I have experienced the other end of this 'good news' story.

I was already settled into my carefully selected J seat (bulkhead) when I noticed a mum and children standing slightly off to one side in the aisle. Yes, they were hovering and after my seat.... The CSM approached and bumped me back a couple of rows (no upgrade), next to a 'gentleman' who proceeded to drink excessively and continually punched the TV screen which was unresponsive to his gentle touch (thanks QF that was a great flight ). On landing I noted that his wife and child were several rows further back - I'm sure they were glad not to have had the pleasure of sitting next to him for 12+ hours.

I expressed my displeasure to the CSM on the flight and he apologised, but I'm sorry it really doesn't make up for being moved from my seat with no notice. I know that seats are not guaranteed etc and that QF were entitled to move me at will, but it still rankles.

absolutely. Unless it was a 744.

The fact that 4 PE->J upgrades came through suggests a nont full J cabin anyway so there was probably the ability to move people to similar seats. Hopefully.

oh just to clarify my feelings on being upgraded vs paid travel my only feeling there was that if it were me, and I'd paid for J and been moved around I'd feel fare more annoyed than if I'd upgraded to J and moved. As I see it, an upgrade is, while not a gift (unless it's complimentary, but I'll assume points), it's something one usually accepts, and if it's last minute, usually doesn't have much of a choice over seats, even if it's a few days prior, your seating allocation may be limited - or more bluntly "be thankful it came through and accept your options" - but that's just the way I feel about it. If however I'd paid a revenue ticket and assigned that seat before upgrade windows opened and all that, then I, personally, would feel more of an entitlement to be upset about being moved (if not consulted). A minor point I know, and just my personal view. Others will vary I'm sure :)

The Plane was full and I saw at least one at gate op-up to F. The F Agent did call the lounge so I think there was consultation (it took quite a while). We didn't ask for the seat reassignments as I was prepared to ask on the plane politely as to not incur the wrath of any AFFers. As it was we ended up in E/F seats so anyone who was moved just ended up in another E/F somewhere else. Two of us were in Emerald City and the other two down in 21. Boys were both ideal passengers. Neither were loud/agitated or running around and they didn't get drunk either nor punched the screen when they didn't work.

There is another flip side I hope doesn't happen on our upcoming flight in a couple of months flying mel-syd-sin in fully paid J (2xWPs,1 infant on first flight) requested and were allocated 1 JK (bassinet new a330 business suite) seat, 3 months in advance (they were not occupied). I just hope we're not kicked out by a WP1 demanding a bulk head seat at the last minute.. :D

I'd say travelling with an infant, with only limited bassinet positions that that would trump some uppity P1/CL from it. I'd call that an operational requirement in a way, since your infant can't just be moved to row 4. I hope so anyway.

to Colster I hope you did not take my comments personally as they were not intended to be since I don't know anyone involved. I was simply trying to point out that there are other sides to this delightful story of QF being really good to sort you guys out. Like Zig above potentially there were those displaced(but not upgraded) that perhaps were not happy with the change when they boarded. That's all I was saying.

yes, very interesting how single males are potential child molesters, but not accompanied males.......
