Smoky hot meals on QF

I remember being howled down when I suggested that the box meals were unsatisfactory.

Don't like the idea of a fire at the back of the aircraft but I have enjoyed my box meals. The spinach and cheese pita on my BNE-SYD flight the other week was good but I long all flight for the delicious sliders (mini hot dog & burger) on international trips. Yes, the are not as good as any meal I can make but for mass catering on a flight in Y, i enjoy them.

Apart from the news article, I too have come to like the box meals, when they are available.
Have had them with penne pasta and proscuito, rice and chicken, etc.
Filling.

You must be jesting about the mini-slider/hotdog. I was presented with this on a MEL - SIN flight the other week and it was basically inedible. The buns were hard and the meat was a dried up patty with a blob of mustard; the hot dog was no better - one taste was enough! Maybe I was unlucky.

Considering paper is combustible at 233c and they are setting the ovens at 275c, someone at Qantas is not doing their sums right.

How did they get it all right the first time they introduced these things?

They aren't paper though, they are a coated card which presumably 'should' have a higher point

Plates don't burn.

it looks a bit scary to me from the pics I have seen.. :)

That video by the journalist that accompanies the article is woeful.

". . . So how would most Qantas Frequent Flyers feel - those who are flying economy . . ."

As a frequent flyer who flew SYD/BNE in economy yesterday I felt absolutely fine.

In fact had I not had to drive at the other end, a glass of red would've rounded off the meal nicely.

This was the pork pasta but the other choice in whY was chicken salad. It was absolutely delicious - definitely not bland but not too spicy - just yum. :p

I have found the boxed meals to be quite nice. Surprisingly nice actually. Have yet to have a bad one but, then again, I don't travel QF domestically that often.

Another fan of the boxed meals.
The referenced articles says the problem is limited to 737s.
