Myki set to be the ticket to ride on airport SkyBus

SkyBus is also set to transform its drab bus interchange at Southern Cross Station into an "airport gateway", complete with flight information screens and facilities for passengers to remotely check-in at Melbourne Airport.

MYKI will soon be able to be used on SkyBus. No price reduction, 'though.

One great move has been free CBD travel in trams and bus and skybus provide hotel transfers for free

Cynical me wonders why Skybus agreed to this, and what is behind the renovations at SC.

Has their contract been renegotiated / extended, or otherwise changed recently I wonder? Any assurances given re competition?

Or maybe the train is getting closer and they are trying to beat the impending competition.

Being able to use Myki on Skybus will further entrench Skybus in people's minds. Competing services like Jetbus and Starbus will find it much harder to compete - so I see this as all favouring Skybus as the only way to get to Melbourne Airport. The same with in-city check-in at Skybus terminal. If that was made available, would people prefer Skybus or Jetbus, even though Jetbus would pick you up from your home?

Don't worry, so will I.

As will I. Unless Skybus costs the same as other public transport, I'm taking the cheap option.

That said, if I could check my bags in at Southern Cross (a la HKG) that could sway me. But there's no way that would happen in MEL. Not enough money in it, and the monopoly is already there.

CBD travel is free only on trams, not on buses.

Oh roger that ..... However the free hotel service is still on buses and that's provided by Skybus ......all new upgraded minibuses.

Last time I tried that from HSW, Skybus quoted me an hour trip time to Southern Cross as they just go on a big loop. Needless to say we walked.

That is unfair and charging so much. However people with heavy bags like the idea. Especially hotels like the ex-Hilton now Pullman is not exactly walking distance
