Flying back home this morning from Hong Kong, the poor bugger across the row from me somehow lost their iPad down the side of their seat... adjusted their seat (not knowing the iPad was there) and... well, let's just say Apple's finest was no match for the Skybed :o

We were last off the plane and the engineer called in to retrieve it showed us the mangled, smashed device. Apparently it's happened more than once.

The seat was fine.

I'm guessing insurance would cover the iPad, but then would they ask Qantas to pay them, seeing as it was their chair that did the damage?

Who's at fault?

s**t happens!! it was an accident...due to pre existing circumstance of pax not 'aware' of where HIS belongings are...if it happened to me i'd be upset at how stupid I was to let it happen!!... learn MY lesson and move on!!! :D

My sentiments exactly.
It wouldn't enter my head to blame the airline for that. Just like if I left my phone on the roof of my car, drove off and it smashed on the road, I wouldn't blame the carmaker for putting an acceleration function and a roof on my vehicle.

Wouldn't blame the airline but would have a crack at a TI claim.

I certainly couldn't blame the airline, and I think a TI claim would be a given: 'accidental damage'.

Just to clarify, I wasn't blaming Qantas, was just thinking logically that the owner would want a new one, and would probably hope to use some sort of insurance, and the buck never stops with them :p

The pax is at fault for dropping the iPad. If it was me, I wouldn't move the seat until I had retrieved it. Even if it meant sitting in a different seat for landing. Let the engineers look for it then.

I probably would have stuck my fingers, hands and arm where I shouldn't and retrieved it prior to landing ;)

...and then sued the airline for 'pain and suffering' due to injuries sustained putting your body parts where they shouldnt go!! (PLEASE..I'M JOKING!!!) :D

More fool him for not keeping track of personal, expensive, electronic devices.

Those planes are built pretty tough.

Evidently, snake vs trailing edge flap, has the plane winning too.

Skybed is strong..
Had a colleague have their IBM (now Lenovo) Thinkpad spat out in the day (the Titanium cover not so strong)
