Skipping legs on Air Asia flight

Hi there,


I noticed that Air Asia often sells flights via KUL that are cheaper than flying to KUL, for example OOL-KUL-PVG is cheaper than OOL-KUL on a given date. Has anyone tried skipping legs on a return booking, so just using the legs from and to KUL? Given their fare structure I don't think it will be an issue, but has anyone actually tried recently?

Google 'hidden city ticketing' for some more responses.


Your initial problem will be boarding in OOL with a flight booking to PVG. They will check if you have a visa to enter China. If not that's the end of the story. No BPs issued and you've forfeited the complete fare.

Skipping any legs will result in the cancellation of the remaining sectors, especially when hidden city ticketing might be involved.

If you book seperate tickets the outbound leg might be ok to throwaway the ex-KUL leg (assuming the china visa problem is solved!). I doubt air Asia would have the inclination to try and pursue you for the difference...

Then just have to book one way kul-ool coming back.

Thanks for all the replies, I am well aware of hidden city ticketing limitations with regular network carriers.
However, Air Asia is a point to point carrier and at least in the past skipping legs has not been an issue. I don't have any recent first hand experience and was therefore wondering if anyone else had, especially since they moved to a GDS since I last tried a few years back.

Except that in some cases they aren't point-to-point as they offer through fares. If the fares were simply combined one on the other, it might be a different story.

although... this answer from Air Asia may suggest you'd just need to 'buy the flight you missed'. Except that would be complicated by the through ticketing fare.

AirAsia doesn't care about you skipping legs. They don't cancel the rest of the itinerary like legacy carriers do.
