"So with 2 strokes of a pen keyboard and we had 2 X 2 pax F bookings upgraded to R - the 1st day of 380 rotation and 2nd last day of 380 rotation - amazing coincidence? SQ gods smiled apon us huh?"

Well done Cruiser Elite - enjoy !

I booked suites ( 1 & 2 for the double ) for our next ski trip to Italy, but we need to fly domestically to Sydney to depart and suffer a 14 hour layover in Singapore on the way home. The messing around though doesn't really worry me 'cause after all it's all about the journey.

I don't know about you but I am finding more and more that long layovers are becoming common with reward bookings.

Where in Italy are you going ? We keep going back to France, Val D'Isere and Val Thorens, but want to head to Italy once the kids are a few years older.

Agree with the long layovers, I had to book two separate tickets for a MEL-SIN-CDG flight in March and then a 2 day layover for LHR-SIN-MEL. I don't mind spending a few days in SIN but it ends up adding a week to the trip

We are old and as such have skied in lots of places but several years ago we came across " Dolomiti Super Ski" in Northern Italy. An area that offers 12 major ski resorts that have all joined together to offer 400 + Lifts and over 1200 k's of ski runs in an
unbelievable magnificent world heritage area all on the one ski pass. We have stayed in a few of these villages Including Cortina in the SE and Corvara in the North.
I could go on and on but best if you check it out on the internet. Hardly a drag lift to be seen with cable Cars and Gondolas all over.
An unpretentious area with all standards of accommodation and none of the "we are better than you" attitude that can often be found in the "upmarket" resorts of France and Switzerland and no package tourists eg Avoriaz. Also none of those super rich
Northern Europeans who destroy ski areas by throwing money around.
Only a couple of hours by car from Venice but we normally fly into Milan ,Munich or
Zurich depending SIA availability, rent a car and have a 4/5 hour drive. Most of the area is easily accessible by car and the roads are kept well clear of snow.

THE BEST 'TILL LAST : ITALY IS MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE THAN FRANCE AND SWITZERLAND AND IMHO BETTER !

We stayed at Colfosco a few years ago. The best restaurant around was La Perla in Corvara which was walking distance from Colfosco. Great skiing all around that area.
We bussed up from Venice.

I purposely did not mention Colfosco - our favourite ski in ski out village.
Not generally known to Australians and most of the skiers are from Europe.
The few Australians who go there have a bond of secretcy so I cannot possibly
recommend this Ladin Village.

I absolutely second the Dolomites in Norther Italy. I skied there in Feb 2020 just before Covid lockdowns. I stayed in Arabba with a group from the UK which organises annual 'Bashes' - Snowheads.

The skiing teriitory is amazing, you can literally do a loop of the Sellaronda and spend the whole day out without having the do the same run twice.

The quality and price of food was great too. Fresh pasta's, woodfire pizza and drinks are so affordable.

BA also has reasonable J flights into Venice ($400) from LHR or LGA.

Sorry for going OT but had to chime in :)

This (2024) will likely be the last year of French skiing, and yes the Dolomites are calling.

I've skied in Italy before actually, the other side of Zermatt, much more relaxed there, that's for sure.

It's a bit early in the morning in Italy now but just to get you excited, in a couple of hours, google "Web Cams Alta Badia "
Sorry folks and I know Italy is great ( food / cheap ) as my sister lives in Milan but seriously how can you go past the Haute Savoie in France (at the end of the day we go to ski 🤔) . My vote goes to Paradiski (Les Arcs/La Plagne) . If you get fed up with the 256 local lifts go do a day trip to Espace Killy or Les Trois Vallees 60 mins in either direction. And a TGV to Bourg St Maurice to boot.
Just my thoughts
Cheers

Finally off on Friday providing Virgin get us to Sydney in time to
catch Singapore's A380. Originally booked a flight to arrive 3 hours
prior to our Singapore departure but the "reliability factor" got to me so booked to arrive in Sydney at 8.00 allowing plenty of time ( and several later flights )in case of cancellations etc
Reservered a day room at Rydges so after a quick trip to the lounge and a few hour sleep we will be off.
A benefit of being old is that a day ticket for all the 400 + lifts
is just about $70.
Our grand children will be there and I have made them promise, to avoid any embarrassment, not to ski faster than me !
AND THE SNOW IS GREAT !
