I was most disappointed passing through BKK on my way home earlier this month to be advised that I could not take duty free onboard my flight and they had no 'gate delivery' service like at SIN. Yes I can buy it in MEL when I land but its generally more expensive, especially for premium spirits.

I was most impressed coming home from SIN last year, both in terms of range and prices. Im travelling MEL-SIN-BKK-HKT in October and BKK-SYD home so was planning to buy my 2 x 1L duty free on the way there (in SIN), and have it in my checked in luggage on the way home. My concern is the SIN-BKK-HKT legs. I have about 2.5 hours in SIN so plenty of time to buy it and have it delivered to the gate for my next flight but Im unsure if Ill be allowed to carry it onboard my next 2 flights. I don't want to risk having to ditch it in BKK (I have a very short transit time and apparently you don't have to clear customs until you reach HKT so I wouldnt have a chance to put it in my bag anyway.

Is this doable?

Thanks

Gate delivery is only for Aus and US flights AFFAIK otherwise its a sealed bag you take with you. I doubt BKK HKT is an issue being domestic.

You should be aware too that the duty free allowance into Thailand is only one litre and they do occasionally x-ray bags at Customs.

We priced on arrival duty free in Melbourne and found Dan Murphys was cheaper. We ended up buying it in Singapore but when we got to the gate they couldn't find the bag. They ended up redoing the order and we boarded with 10 mins to spare. Then lo and behold an FA showed up with the bag of alcohol. Have no idea where it came from. But we were honest.
