Until recently, to my surprise, the last SQ trip report on AFF was Bundy Bear's A380 experience http://www.australianfrequentflyer....p-photos/syd-sin-syd-a380-complete-12184.html, so I thought that it would be my AFF duty to do a trip report on my flights to PVG in SQ J.

I say until recently because just yesterday, NDiddy posted a wonderful trip report on SQ 227 SIN-MEL http://www.australianfrequentflyer....vietnam-singapore-jan-feb-2012-a-35876-8.html which was in the upper deck of a 747. Although the first leg of my flight is also on a 747, my remaining three flights are all on different configurations of SQ's 777.

Flight details:
MEL-SIN SQ 238 747-400
SIN-PVG SQ 836 777-200
PVG-SIN SQ 833 777-300ER
SIN-MEL SQ 237 777-300

And as per my usual trip report, it has lots of pretty pictures :)

We arrived at Melbourne airport at 7:40am from CBR, and with boarding passes already in our hot little hands, we headed directly from T3 to T2 to clear security and immigration. The boarding passes that were collected in CBR was on a QF style boarding pass, however when we got to the SQ lounge, the lounge agent exchanged them for SQ style boarding passes. The SQ lounge is located on the lower level right opposite the QF J lounge. The size of the lounge seemed relatively small but would be sufficient for the handful of SQ flights departing MEL each day.

Going well so far!

I don't like the lack of amenity kits on SQ. are they outlawed in sinkers?. They are a long way behind emerites in that regard

Most of what you really need is in the bathrooms though!

But I do love the amenity kits as they come in useful for so many other things!

The wifi connection in the SQ lounge was pretty decent:

But a tip would be to connect to the QF wifi:

While in the lounge, I checked out the seat map on expert flyer for our flight. Originally I was seated in 22H (which I selected online previously) but decided to move to one of the empty rows in the middle.

So I went up to the lounge agent and asked if I could move to seat 23F, and she was more than happy to make the change for me.

I then convinced one of my colleagues who was seated in 24K to move to 23D.

Boarding was called at 10:25, and after a final bathroom stop, we headed to the gate. General boarding was well underway by the time we got there, which was lined up against the wall, with a priority lane perpendicular to it right in front of the gate with a Singapore Airlines staff policing it, which worked incredibly well. In no time at all, we were on board the plane and settling into our seats.

According to SeatGuru, the seats are angled lie flat, but the angle doesn't seem as noticeable as the similar seats on KE or QF.

Brings back some memories....a few years ago when I was PPS, the J cabin on the 747 was like my second home....never did like the sloping bed tho...:(

The console for the IFE is in the arm rest:

As outlined foreshadowed by Sprucegoose, we didn't get amenity kits as such, which I found disappointing.

But we did get some eye covers and slippers that made your feet sweat overtime.

Though lovestotravel does have a point:

Prior to pushing back, pre-flight drinks were offered, drink orders taken and hot towels handed out. They also came around taking lunch orders, but I had already selected a meal through ‘book the cook’ so decided to stick with that. Soon after take-off, our drinks were brought around with some warm mixed nuts and the meal service began around 90 minutes into the flight.

After the lunch service, hot towels and a bottle of water were handed out.
While walking around the cabin mid-flight, I discovered some chocolates, playing cards, postcards, pens and paper near the galley for pax to help themselves.

Around 2 and a half hours before landing, the afternoon orders for refreshments were taken. The options were:
- Linguine aglio olio (Pasta sauteed with olive oil, garlic, bacon, liguraian olive and vine-ripened cherry tomato)
- Balinese style fried rice with seafood

I opted for the pasta which was served half an hour later.

Hot towels were handed out just prior to, then again after the meal.

The cabin crew on this flight were very friendly, professional and attentitive. As many would agree, the cabin crew on a flight can shape the experience of a passanager and the hospitality on this flight made the trip wonderful.

OT:

Had an interesting conversation with a flight attendant mid-flight. She asked me how my flight was and where I was heading to. I replied that the flight was very good so far and that I was going to Shanghai for work. She then asked if this was my first time on SQ, and on that I explained that I had been in Y many years ago, but it was my first time in J and that I was excited about the various different types of aircrafts I'll be flying on this trip. She then asked whether I worked for an airline as I was taking so many pictures . I then filled her in on trip reports and AFF .
