Last month flew MEL-SIN-DEL return in economy and found that the standard of service and in particular the food was of a worse standard than that of Chinese airlines. Singapore Airlines has come down a lot since I last flew with them. Is this in all their routes or just to India? I used to love flying with them :(

I recently had excellent meals in PE (very tasty pad Thai) and J (pre ordered the chicken rice) on the SYD/ SIN legs.

However back in Y for CMB/ SIN legs and the food was very ordinary. Menu was heavily weighted to seafood based so was able to log in and select non seafood meal for the return leg.

... and here is me thinking that it is economy food that is the issue but maybe it relates to the specific airline as well. :D

Bit surprised to hear that, although of course nobody or no airline's perfect. It's been about 9 months since I've been on SQ, but I've always liked the food I've gotten in Y. Hopefully not a recent change in quality. Or does it seem to be route specific? I fly SQ on Australia-China routes.

Flown a few Y round trips in last 6 months, generally disappointing food, particularly breakfast meals. Haven't noticed a particular difference between legs/regions.

Feel like it was much better a few years ago, but probably rose tinted specs and the occasional J flight raising expectations...

Still prefer SQ in Y overall though. EK meals used to impress me in Y but haven't flown them for a few years.

The two round trips i did in SQ (Y) this year and I found SQ food quality not as good as it used to be on all the 4 australian sector. It is pretty clear that they are cutting costs. However, i found the quality very good on the SIN-NRT-LAX sector on Y.

Which meal selection? I tend to find anything served with rice in Y on SQ not to my liking . Sticking with the western option (unless it is fish) tends to be a fairly safe option. Chicken seems to be best.

Actually had the best poached eggs I've ever had in any class on an airline a few months back, going to RGN. Go figure. Also had pretty ordinary food a couple of weeks ago going to SGN.

Had a couple of short flights in economy last month and the food wasn't too bad although one of the dishes had way too much chilli in it. Mild I can handle. Hot is totally over the top especially when you're not expect

Had the pork in thyme on a Qantas flight in economy MNL-SYD last week and I would say that would come close to being the best meal I have had on any airline in any class of travel.
