Im assuming "Champagne" = "Sparkling wine"? and not the actaul stuff from Champagne area.
On a recent QF133 I actually queried the FA about this and she confirmed it's the real deal, NV though. And yes, it was French, though probably from the bottom of the barrel as it was 'entry level'. But so were the wines, too, both in & out of CHC (rather young and light wines without much depth or character in them).
 
I'm reminded me of an EK flight out of AKL (back when tags were a common thing. RIP). The crew apologised because the Dom was "too cold"

I thought it was fine myself :D
