Am I reading it right, on the flight I looked at they do a 5th freedom sin-kul on a 737-200 then kul-mct in an a333? How does that.work? It's only a 2 hour stop in KUL. Is that a remote hub?

737-200 is an error ... should be 737-800. Flights between SIN and KUL are WY codeshares operated by MH.

I'd definitely leave the airport. Muscat is an interesting place and you could easily arrange a day tour to cover the main sights before taking on award journey. Visas are done on arrival and cost (well used to cost) around $10 from memory.
