Hi all,

Just thought I would inform you that SIA is demolishing the current Melbourne SilverKris Lounge, expanding it, and also adding a First Class Lounge.

They already had a First Class lounge. It was very old and unimpressive, it should be noted the staff were lovely though.

FWIW - MNL SKL also currently under reno - they have closed off the F section and some of the old J section to upgrade initially - then remainder of old J section will then be done.

There will be no segregated F / J sections apon completion - just one big common lounge.

I have sent off query to SQ asking if this will be model for ALL SKL refurbs - if not which ones will be this way - to date not hads a response.

Cruiser Elite,
Can't imagine you will get a response.

Also can't imagin them doing that in SIN, so I guess it will be a port by port thing.
Is there any real F flying into MNL??

I did get one response to my intial query to SQ - I specifically asked about future status of MNL SKL apon completion because the girls on door at lounge told me of the communal aspect - but I did not ask general question about other SKLs

No they would never do it in SIN but I was wondering which ports they might be planning on doing that way.

Well I flew out of MNL on Nov 12 and YES it was real F - new seats - flew out of MNL on Aug 15 and I think it was oldest metal in SQ fleet - DISGRACEFUL.

J Savers MNL-SIN-MEL easy to get if include SQ237 on 773 but often hard to get on 380 flts 217 and 227 - so if you want flat bed to sleep gotta go F. The sh*tty product MNL-SIN made up for with 6 hours in TPE - sigh - it's a dog's life - but you gotta grin and bear it. :D

TPR surely? :D No F in TPE.

OK dudes - time for a little update - SQ did indeed get back to me re Lounge upgrades - the convo below:

Attention SAA
I recently flew F MNL-SIN-MEL – MNL F lounge was closed for renovations.
Can you please advise when new MNL F lounge will be open.
Staff at MNL J lounge indicated in future F and J pax would share common lounge – is this true?

Dear Mr Elite,
Good Evening:)
This is in reference to your query re Silver Kris Lounge in Manila.
We expect the lounge to reopen fully 3rd week of December. We do apologise for the inconvenience caused as we are currently undergoing maintenance and minor renovations.
Yes, it will also be a common lounge once fully reopened, to allow greater capacity and space utilisation in the lounge for the comfort of all our passengers.
Thank you for your continued support to Singapore Airlines.
Best regards!
Sincerely SAA

Dear SAA
My understanding is that SQ will be upgrading most SKLs across its entire network in next year or so – is this correct?
Will this model as implemented in MNL – shared usage by F and C/J pax – will that be standard model in all upgrades?
Rgds

Dear Mr Elite,
In reference to your email below, yes correct to say that SQ will be upgrading most SKLs next year.
In addition, upgrading of our lounges will take place over the next 5 years across the network. Generally, our SKLs will be common class lounges but for larger stations e.g SYD, LHR, we are planning to have a 2-class lounges, subject to space availability.
Thank you for your continued support and best regards!
Sincerely SAA

At least they got back to you

But the "subject to space availability" leaves it an unknown until completion

Another upgrade that results in a disenhancement for F & Suites pax.
So now F & Suites pax will have to put up with pleb *A Golds.
Give with one hand (Saver Suites) and take with the other.
I suppose I can bear it for Suites savers.....

OK dudes - time for a little update - SQ did indeed get back to me re Lounge upgrades - the convo below:

We expect the lounge to reopen fully 3rd week of December.

Just an update, in SKL MNL now, guy in front of me at desk asked when it was to be completed, he was told 'we hope to have it open for 1st week of January'. Not sure if that date is based on Filipino expectations, or SQ expectations.

Pete

Further update - MNL SKL indeed not really being refurbished - more maintenance. F side which was closed now re-opened - cannot spot any real improvements - even the girls on front desk had no idea what 'improvements' had been done.

J side now closed - YES I think they are going to upgrade toilets / shower first - again the girls had no idea of what was going to be 'enhanced'.

MEL - had a good chat to Rita on front desk MEL SQ Lounge. Refurb scheduled to commence mid Jan - will indeed be seperate F and J sections on completion - quote from Rita - "Of course there will be seperate F lounge - our Australian F customers are very important - and the refurb will be spectacular".

Rita thinks at this point in time SQ lounge will be completely closed and SQ will use UA lounge in MEL during renovation period.

Email received this evening:

In order to minimise an inconvenience to you during the renovation period, we have made arrangements with our Star Alliance partner, United Airlines, for you to use their lounge, which is located at the T2 Satelitel Arrival Level.
