Silverjet bites the dust

BRITAIN'S Silverjet has become the third business-class-only airline flying between London and New York to collapse, after failing to get an emergency $US5 million ($5.2 million) loan.

The company, launched at the start of 2007, called in administrators on Friday, grounded its fleet and said it did not believe there would be any value realised for shareholders.

Except that Openskies changed from a J only to J, W (PE?) and Y a while ago, which makes them more like BA except that they wont fly out of LHR to the US.

Given the effect fuel is having on all other airlines (cutting routes, cancelling aircraft orders etc) the loss of Maxjet, EOS and Silverjet is not a surprise. Once BA and LH were prodded into action, and fuel prices continued to rise it was almost inevitable.

Once again, the airline industry is one where it is marginally better to be a customer than an owner (very marginally )
