Hit silver about two weeks ago and have still yet to receive my (presumably) shiny new card. I'm heading to AKL on Sunday so I was hoping to have it before then... does anyone know how long the packs take to arrive?

Up to 6 weeks I believe.

Even if the new card doesnt arrive gold is printed on your boarding pass to ensure you obtain your entitlements.

Unless the booking was made prior to your status upgrade. Mine printed my status at the time when I made the booking.

I'm a newly minted BIS Platinum and have done two flights on separate bookings that were booked before the status change. The first flight printed platinum on the ticket but the second didn't. Only thing I did different was I checked in online for the first one and not the second. I noticed the second one didn't have the new status at check in and asked, she couldn't work out why it did it but said if I went to customer service they should be able to fix it (I didn't bother ).

Didn't think there were many entitlements for silver?

This is correct, it printed my old status on the ticket after I got to Silver. However I queried the status when I was checking in, she did her magic and shazam, updated status on the ticket. Not that it makes much difference really, but made me feel better at any rate! :)

As an add on to this. On the silver benefits page on the Velocity website it specifically mentions personalised luggage tags so you can flaunt your lofty silver status around. All I recieved upon becoming silver was a card in an envelope. This was through the status match offer last year though. So I was wondering if only those who gain status through travel get the tags or is the web page wrong?

I got 1 silver tag, 2 gold tags - through BIS. In those nice little boxes each time :)

There was comment during the status match period that the silver packs didn't have the nice presentation box, luggages tag and stainless wire. Perhaps Liroquai could confirm if this is still the same, or whether it's reverted to the full pack?

I received my Silver pack shortly before the end of last year, it contained the personalised luggage tags.

It's the full pack... here's a few pics I just took:

Same here, i was status matched and received the lonely card in the mail.
So, i sent an email to Velocity to inquire about bag tags & lounge passes and promptly got a friendly reply - they then sent out the bag tags (and much flaunting ensued).
As for the lounge passes - giddy from my new relationship with Virgin, I didn't realise the 2 comps weren't physical passes but electronically recorded on your FF card & valid for just 3 months, so i missed out on checking out the lounges this time.

Anyways - worth shooting Velocity an email if you'd like your shiny bag tags

By the sounds of it, must have just been a temporary short supply of packs. Good to see it's back again.......a nice gesture, getting the full pack!

Silver has free checked luggage and priority boarding when travelling overseas. And the two free lounge passes can come in useful if you are early at the airport or delayed. It's still worth it in a big way.

Those stainless steel wire tags are very nice, and can be moved from bag to bag easily too.

Overall when I got the pack in the mail I thought this is now an airline that has grown up!
