I'm thinking of an itinerary booked through the Singapore website that has 2 options.

Fly SQ to Singapore, then fly on a SQ codeshare on Silkair metal to my destination.
or
Fly SQ to Singapore, then fly on the Silkair code/metal to my destination.

Having very little experience with SQ/Silkair, can anyone think of any disadvantages to either routing? SQ will book either and they are the same price. Being on the same itinerary I should get the standard misconnect protection shouldn't I?

(There are also a couple of Silkair flights available on the website on the same itinerary that aren't codeshared and offer better connections than the codeshared ones, hence why I'm thinking of using the Silkair/metal flight if there are no real disadvantages).

Also, any comments on Silkair?

[Normally I'd fly OneWorld, but I can either lose an additional day of work and 1/2 an extra day coming back for a negligible improvement in arrival time flying Jetstar, Cathay is way overpriced, and Qantas/BA aren't a good option either]

The only difference I can think of is that SilkAir is not a *A partner, so if you were crediting the miles to a A* program, you'd be able to do that on the SQ code, but not the SilkAir one.

Don't know if that's true in all cases. I know when I few on a SQ code on SilkAir two years ago, I looked into it and the NZ Airpoints programme made it clear that * alliance codeshare flights operated by a non-alliance members were not eligible for accrual of points. So it may depend on the programme that mileage is being accrued to. However if crediting to SQ's Krisflyer, both the codeshare and the SilkAir flight accrue equally.

As for comments on SilkAir, I flew in J so can't comment on Y experience, but J seemed very similar to QF domestic J.
