Signature Card -> Premier Card

As a VA passenger without a lounge, I used the Priority Pass at BNE yesterday. Very handy. I'll be looking at Amex cards that have free PP when I return from the wilderness. Seems like a good alternative to the same old lounge if that comes back.
And PP handy at the syd T2 terminal for entry into rex lounge, when it opens again (no food/wine to speak of, but gets you away from that madding crowd, should it ever return)

Has anyone who was on the Visa Signature 'fee free for life' successfully added the linked Diners Club card? I've tried to do it online and it didn't work out, and then when I tried to do it over the phone, they said that it was not yet available to me, but the reasoning was not given. I've asked for a callback from a leader to explain.

I haven't really use the Citi card since they dropped their points earn after that RBA surcharge & interchange nonsense, but I do swing back to it from time-to-time to capture spend that exceeds the monthly QFF points threshold on my HSBC Premier MC.

Citi Premier MC is at 0.75 QFF points per $1 on eligible spend, whereas the linked Diners card (if accepted) pays 1:1 QFF points, uncapped, on eligible spend. It also has no international transaction fees when you spend overseas or with online international retailers

Cheers,
Matt.

Yes, but I did it when it was offered, so that was however long ago.

Except the exchange rate is so bad it's worse than AmEx with 2.5%

I signed up for the linked Diners Club card when it was made available last year or the year before and I've got the Fee free for life, which has now become a Mastercard.

Ah, ok - just starting to find info now that suggests it was there sometime before the MC product change came along... I somehow thought they were a thing that came along togther

On exchange... Hmmm... are the Diners FX rates worse than paying the MC FX rate + the 3.4% of transaction amount?

Probably not although I have not used Citi Visa for overseas for over 10 years. Myself and a friend who also has these cards did some tests on the free Diners, all came back really bad, so I stuck with Bankwest with AmEx as back up (now switched from Bankwest to Macquarie).

AmEx forex is actually quite OK after 2.5% surprisingly.

I posted the transactions here somewhere on this forum, I tested in China, and my friend tested in Hong Kong and South Korea.

Righto - thanks. I'll check into that some more before using, if it ends up being provided. My HSBC MC is 2% of transaction for o/s transactions, which is good by comparison to the Citi at 3.4%, but I thought even with a hedged rate on the linked Diners it might be better again than that.

Cheers,
Matt.

+1 for the Macquarie cr card for os transactions, and also Citi DEBIT card. And a bit off topic, but Citi "intra" bank accounts (citi US$ account to normal savings account) is relatively good rate about 1.5% above the mid market rate, and it displays the rate (updated about every 20sec) before you click Confirm Transaction.

I have had a response from Citi on my attempts to 'apply' recently for the linked Diners Club card (LDCC), to go with my Premier MC, and on the off chance it might assist another in the same boat, here was the answer:

We have looked into this and found that due to [a] system update and the upgrade of the credit card to
MasterCard, we are currently unable to issue a new LDCC. We have raised a ticket to further investigate and fix this. Once the option is available, you will be able to apply for the LDCC.

No timing was given, but over the phone they said it's being actively worked on...........

Cheers,
Matt.

If it’s any consolation, when my recent replacement cards arrived, the replacement Linked Diners (I’ve had one since launch) wouldn’t activate. I tried in the app, on the website and by phone and nothing worked. I spoke to the call centre and they weren’t able to activate it either.

Only HBSC in this country is more annoying to deal with than Citibank, with an honourable mention to Heritage Bank for being a very close third in the deliberately obtuse stakes.
I'm also an HSBC customer, and thus I endorse this message. :)

I’ve noticed this recently. Set up a few new company accounts recently took a couple of weeks (Westpac did it in 40 mins) And they’ve now come back and asked me to elaborate on breakdown of my assets to back what I said about my net worth when I applied. I can see why they’re doing it as got into trouble overseas for letting some bad actors do stuff they weren’t supposed to. Now being too hyper vigilant.

Heh. I had to call Citibank a few times recently for this "premier" card.
Firstly to get my wife's card activated (could only activate my own card on the app), then they couldn't tell me what was available for reward redemption. I asked them cos it changes on 20 Sep. Then I tried messaging them, but they are flat out hopeless.
I've only got a few points, but thought I might want to redeem them before the new changes.
The other thing that was annoying was their system could recognise my mobile number, but then would not accept the last four digits of anything (a/c number, card number of new or old card). Seems the customer service agent doesnt like to use voice recognition either (thought that was supposed to be a feature), and wanted to use OTP. Just clumsy service.

Anyone else received the following offer? My Premier card will be changing from Visa to MasterCard during the period so I'm not sure how that will tally...

Simply shop for your everyday purchases with your card and spend $3000 or more between 15 September 2020 and 14 November 2020 to receive a $100 eVoucher from Myer, JB HI-FI or Woolworths.

That's a decent offer. I didn't get it (yet?) but I did get and take up the flurry of $2500 for $50 e-GC earlier in the year.

Most recently I have been relentlessly spammed with offers relating to "quick cash" eg borrow $500 - at 5.9% - to receive a $100 e-GC or $6000+ for $200, or the "ready credit" which is get 100,000 flybuys points to establish a line of credit ($199 est fee!!) at 6.9% for 6 months or more. All too hard for me to bother with.

Same here - I get these through both SMS and email, as well as possibly phone but I recognise the Citibank number so I've been ignoring their calls...
