SIA/VA Points and Status Credits

Hi,

After spending 30 mins being rolled through five members of VAs 'Help Centre, I am none the wiser...

My partner and I are going to India (Oct/Nov) for my 60th and SIA have some rather well priced Economy fares at the moment $1,000 return. Econ+ are also keen. Nothing shows up on the VA platform (all year unavailable) which makes no sense but the VA res. people couldn't find it either and advised me to contact SIA directly. Happy to do that but to earn Points and Credits, is it just a case of entering my Velocity number? I realise the actual number will depend on fare classification.

You should book directly with Singapore Airlines or wherever you found those fares. simply add your Velocity membership number to the Singapore airlines booking and you’ll earn Points and Status Credit just fine.

Even though Virgin Australia is a partner of Singapore Airlines not all Singapore Airlines flights will be available via Virgin Australia as a codeshare. Even when they are available for booking via Virgin Australia they might be more expensive than booking directly with Singapore Airlines.

Seeing as you're Virgin Gold (according to your profile)...what you miss out on by booking directly with SQ is 75% points bonus on miles flown...you would only get these flying SQ on VA flight numbers. But as others have said, if the codeshare is not available...its not available...there's no way to make that happen.

By booking through SIA and using your VFF to get velocity points and status, you then have to pay for the inflight WI-FI, even if you have a KrisFlyer account, you cannot access the free inflight WI-FI offered to Krisflyer members. At least that's what I found. Is there a workaround?

On recent SQ flights last week,KF points posted to me within a few hours, VA points posted to Mrs LP. a little over 24 hours later

On an upcoming SQ booking I'm using my KF number in the booking. For lounge access I'm assuming I can show my VA Gold card via the app in conjunction with my SQ boarding pass. Or do I have to also have the VA number on the booking and forgo the wifi access?

It's possible during the online check in process to input your KrisFlyer number for status privileges (e.g. complimentary wifi, lounge access etc), and then input a second frequent flyer number of a partner airline for points/status credits earning.

I tried this earlier this week for my flight SFO-SIN and then SIN-CGK. Used my KrisFlyer Elite Gold status benefits to get access to a Star Alliance lounge at SFO (since SFO does not have an SQ lounge and VA status only enables access to SQ owned and operated lounges) as well as the free wifi onboard SQ, and then used my VA number for points and status earn.

My boarding pass for the SFO-SIN flight displayed VA status, but also an invitation to the United Club (using KrisFlyer status). Interestingly, when I scanned the boarding pass at the United Club to enter, it didn't work, so the attendant still had to input my SQ number manually, but onboard the SQ flight, I was able to access free wifi without an issue.

For my SIN-CGK flight, VA status was also displayed on my boarding pass but oddly, I could not access free wifi, so not sure if it was an issue with the aircraft itself or if there was some sort of issue with the splitting of benefits across two FF numbers. It would seem odd though, given I could access free wifi on the first SQ flight...
