I am pretty sure that all the trans-continental flights leave from the remote terminal for which you have to take the 'skytrain'. The announcements on the skytrain about doors closing, departing, arrival, and doors opening take almost as long as the ride!

The shuttle to the remote terminal is after you pass through security and outward immigration. In fact I think you could pass through security with your wife and then walk along the connecting corridor to terminal C where there is outward immigration.
