Should I take free Gold?

AA just offered me the following free Gold status till April but not sure if I take it cause I am likely not going to travel any OW before April.

Or does any know a quick and easy way to get the EQM and EQD they are offering now to keep or get higher status per the below:

Not sure about your offer, but some years back I got AA Platinum through a challenge by flying on QF SYD-HNL-SYD in Y (of all things). May have been a code share, can’t recall, but it qualified.

You can earn EQMs and EQDs on Oneworld partner airlines, including Qantas. Although, you might just want to check the specific T&Cs of that promo to make sure there isn't some exclusion relating to that particular offer.
