i have 5 nights, was thinking a day trip to macao, catch up with local friends for a meal or two, see the big budha . Have held off booking any walking/food tours as I normally would given Im not sure Im going to go.

I spent 6n in Macau once and had a good look around all over. An over night stay would productively use up 2 days of yr trip. I know people go for a day and say that's enough, but I think it is because they don't have time to get out of the main drag areas. I just went around on buses. I stayed at the training hotel which has a free shuttle : POUSADA DE MONG-HA (AU$131): 2019 Prices & Reviews (Macau, China) - Photos of Hotel - TripAdvisor.
Do look up Tai O in HKG, it's very interesting and there is a bus that takes you right up from the sea over the mountain.

Not sure that this is a positive for HKG, 'US President Donald Trump signed legislation designed to support pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong after previously suggesting he might veto the measure to pave the way for a trade deal with China'.

I imagine Macao is likeVegas, Im not a Vegas fan (not into casinos) so Im sure 1 day to have some Portuguese tarts and a quick look around will be more than enough for me.

HKers are very happy about this news.

Part of it is a Vegas of the East and I only walked through a foyer or two to look at the excess and didn't go back. Although, I hear that the 'shows' can be very good.
I was much more interested in the 300 years of the Portuguese history.

So with Black Friday specials Pottinger comes in at $370/night inlcuding breakfast (but non refundable) so tempted to book as doubt it will get any cheaper - location seems ideal provided not too many disruptions if thing calm down a bit now.

So having searched exhastively for a decent classic reward alternative to no avail, ive decided to risk it and go to Hong Kong as planned. Bit the bullet and booked The Pottinger.

I ended up heading over for 3 nights about a month ago, but stayed on Lantau. Checked out the Big Buddha and Tung Chung, as well as Hong Kong Disneyland for 2 days. Disney was an absolute ghost town, maximum wait of 5 minutes for any ride/show. They must be losing stacks of cash.

There's also extra security at the airport - you need to show your boarding pass and passport before even entering the airport now.

Nope, that's just HK Disneyland...

The signs saying "5 minutes from here" means that by the time you've walked the serpentine path, it'll take you about 5 minutes :)

I took the family in 2017 and it was wonderful having no wait for anything (except the Iron Man experience which was about 15 minutes from memory)

When I lived in Macau, the free buses offered by the casino's was my main mode of transport when not going to/from work. Occasionally they'll funnel you into the casino as you get off the bus, but you simply walk in, then turn around and walk back out. the buses at the Zuhai border crossing were always the most manic.

Does this mean everyone has to pre print their BP in advance?

I was told e-ticket and passport was enough, as not everyone has access to print a boarding pass in the 24 hours that checkin opens.

Love the Pottinger, only been able to afford to stay there once, every time I have been since I have checked rates and too exxy. Enjoy..

CNA is reporting that a million people are on the streets of Hong Kong:

HONG KONG: Vast crowds of protesters thronged Hong Kong's streets on Sunday (Dec 8) in a forceful display of support for the movement on its six-month anniversary, as organisers warned the city's pro-Beijing leaders they had a "last chance" to end the political crisis.

Stay safe if you're there.
