Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Flying into Hk for 4 nights for work in a fortnight. Spoken to people on the ground and I have no concerns. Advice was to just watch online to see where the protests are and then steer clear of those areas. Obviously don’t plan to range too far, you’ve just got to be sensible.

Agreed, the advice I was given which seemed good was be flexible and give yourself plenty of time.

Talk to the hotel reception each morning and they will likely be able to tell you the places to avoid.

Don't get me wrong, what is happening is not good, but I also think the media is taking the perfect photos to sell advertising space on their websites.

Heard an excellent 8 min interview this morning with Clifford Stott : an advisor to the expert panel appointed by the Hong Kong government to advise the Independent Police Complaints Council.

He is in no doubt who escalated this mess. Hong Kong Polytechnic University standoff enters fourth day. He makes the excellent point questioning how the police can recover. Some good points.

Miss11 (13 v soon!!) and I have an 8-9 hour layover in HKG in a few weeks time on a Tuesday. Prior to the unrest we would've made a dash into the city with a thought to trying out the McDonalds Next at Admiralty. This time I'm hesitating. We're in J so the option is to lounge hop for the time as Miss 11 is keen to try out the Yoga room at the Pier. Thoughts?

I wouldn't be leaving the airport or its very near surrounds.

All may well go well if you did so, but for me there'd be too much risk.

It sounds like the kind of plan where you can play it by ear depending on how things look then. No one can really say what things will be like a few weeks from now.

Would she like to see the 'Big Buddha' via the Ngong Ping Cable Car after her yoga? (I did NOT find the yoga area very attractive). Maybe, there's even a Maccas in the centre at the base of the cable car. This is of course close to the a/port.

At the very least catch the bus over the to the Tung Chung outlet mall. (3.5 HKD each way) The cable car leaves from one end of the mall (though signs are not especially helpful). Get a vegetarian lunch at the monastery near the Big Buddha. If you are feeling adventuresome and it is daylight, from the Tung Chung terminal take the bus to Mui Wo (it has a Maccas as well as an outdoor food court) and count the cows (and other wildlife) on the side of the road. Or the bus to Tai O and the fishing village. Either or both can be combined with a one way cable car trip.

Happy (and creative) wandering
Fred

... and the airside Maccas at HKG has closed so prep your daughter for that.

Avoid the West Kowloon Station and travel into China like the plague in the current environment:

Very sad reading, thanks for the link, I was considering flying Cathay to Europe in Feb next year, don't think I will now. He may well be safe, but I dare say his family and friends will be punished in some form.

maccas in Hong Kong, seriously? What's the attraction, aren't they all the same?

While hardly a new view, this is the couple of lines that are most illuminating:

'...They said China is a country where it is not suitable to have full democracy at the moment because the majority of the population are still not well educated, and statecraft and good governance are highly professional skills which can only be managed and handled by a selective and capable minority...'

Thanks. We've been to HKG a few times and have friends in Pui O (however they'll be in my/their hometown when we're in HKG)

Maccas Next is literally a "next level" concept store. See links etc above.

We're currently leaning that way. Given it's flights 1 & 2 of a OWA it might be best to skip it. We have 12 hours on the ground on our way back 6 weeks later. Might try then.

Nah. Not going to entice me from the CX F lounge. Not appealing.
Well we'd only be in the J lounges but we've done the F lounge a few times. Haven't done Macca's Next though. New things and all that!

Has to be Maccas Next, exit A Admiralty!!!

Oh and thanks for the replies all!

I thought McDonalds Australia had rolled out Create Your Taste throughout Australia's stores, but rolled back? This looks like that but with expanded salad bar?

Ironically we will be staying at JW Marriott HK at end of this year so will probably go there and have a look. But I would probably be underwhelmed given there are salad bar everywhere here anyway.
