Should I stay or should I go (EuroZone)

I can only speak for myself but perception has changed on how I view Europe after the series of events. Whether it is logical from a % chance of something actually happening is up for debate - but it does not have the same lustre it used to which is sad. If I did go I would love to visit a place like Portugal.

Maybe it is time to get the thread back to the question posted at the beginning.

Narrow-minded xenophobic babble has been allowed to stand, effectively turning this into an anti-Muslim thread. I ask that you also allow myself or others to challenge it if and when we have the energy to do so.

FWIW, I've just returned from Europe and was impacted by the recent events there.

Firstly, I had previously cancelled my visit to Istanbul because of recent attacks, but it so happened that the latest attack occurred when I was originally scheduled to be there. A bit scary...

Secondly, I was scheduled to travel to the Brussels area the day after the latest attack there. Naturally, I decided at very short notice to change my travel arrangements to avoid the area.

It can impact anyone going to Europe (or elsewhere), but as far as I am concerned I will continue to go, but heed travel advisories as necessary.

Abdul - in a number of previous posts on this thread, you have called other posts ignorant, now your adding xenophobic, and babble. Just because other's opinions are different from yours doesn't make yours right, nor theirs wrong. They are just that, different.

It has been allowed to stand as no-one reported it. You had that as an option.

The mods cannot see every post every time so need to help of the AFF community to make reports when it does go off the rails. This applies to any side of any discussion.

Moving forward any further OT posts including the xenophobic babble as Abdul_A350 puts it will not be tolerated but we need your help in alerting us to the problems. (My reference to xenophobic, or any other, babble applies in both directions)

We are not allowed to be different or have an opinion that is different.

Greece is on the verge of collapse. Everyone wants borders closed. That's not xenophobic. I was thinking of going next year to visit my aunt and take my wife as well but those plans have now been shelved. People getting mugged in the streets. Too dangerous.

And let me assure you Abdul if I witnessed this I would readily call the poster to account - please feel fee to pm me when you observe these specific posts.

There has been great effort taken in keeping this thread less religious and with more travel orientation. However it is impossible at times as the two are occasionally politically linked. But we try anyway. We do not attack anyone or any religion but we do like the truth! We all know that the truth hurts. The information here is what is reflected in the wider world & peoples observations. Abdul there is nothing stopping you from starting a thread and ignoring this one. Many people choose their threads and so should you.

Yeah, the truth that seems to upset most people is that radical Islamic terrorists are not a reflection of the general Muslim population.

Like all smart travellers, we take notice of world events. Heck flying over Ukraine, who would have thought had ANY danger. A late night jaunt to Beijing, who would have thought, a lovely trip from Barcelona to Düsseldorf across the Alps, didn't expect that to be a one-way close-up, personalised sightseeing mission.
so what's going on the streets of Europe is symptomatic of African and South American squalor, poverty and despair. The lawless Wild West where the male:female ratio was probably higher than the influx into Europe, where its constant war and no-one works. does that make it safe?

Freedom of speech, freedom of dress and freedom of movement - that's Aussie but it's not world-wide lore nor law

I would like to see people from wherever they travel, arrive with respect and tolerance for the culture into which they arrive. Not to expect to upend it!

People tend to reflect the attitudes of their media and to that extent much of the Western Media has a lot to answer for.

My daughter and family was recently housesitting in Al Ain for a month and the locals were cautious of them initially due to the way they knew they were being portrayed by Australian media. It only took a few days for it to settle but out but it certainly was problem initially.

Radical naz_s were not a reflection of the general German population. How many died in Europe in WW II?

Radical Japanese were not a reflection of the general Japanese population. How many died in the Pacific in WW II?

One fact is modern day terrorism has not killed anywhere near the number of people killed in WW II by radicals. I guess that's a good thing.

We should just ignore terrorism, pretend it's a part of life and continue travelling?

These kind of weasel words are not a reflection of the general Australian population. I hope.

If you want to advocate war with a population of over one billion mostly peace-loving people spread right across the globe, then at least have the courage to do it directly.

We should just ignore terrorism and pretend it's a way of life.

There you go. Issue solved.

Not sure that many people will accept that as a solution JohnK.
I know they won't. You know they won't. Some people want everyone to simply ignore the issue. I really for the life of me cannot understand why.

I can think for myself. I don't want to play Russian roulette.

So what do you advocate as a solution, JohnK? Enough of the weasel words and passive-aggressive sarcasm. Say it out loud.

No one here has said terrorism isn't a problem, that's a total straw man.

But you pay Russian roulette every time you get in a car! I suppose the difference is that in a car you think you have more control to be able to influence the outcome?

Terrorists want to disrupt our lives. They only can if we let them. Terrorism is not new, maybe the difference today is that social media plays a large part in spreading its impact.

Close borders for a start.

And stop insulting me personally. I am allowed to think for myself. I don't need to inherit your outlook on the situation.
