I am about to book a fare on AA. I have 2 options for paying for the same flight (well flights as it has 2 stops).

Cheapest fare is AU$381.50 which falls into G class.
Or for AU$520 I can book an instant upgrade to an I class fare.

First and third flights have economy only. Second flight has first and economy.

Here's my assumptions I would love to have confirmed or denied....

I will be put in first class for the 2nd flight?

All fares will credit as I class to my Qantas FF?

Where are you flying to and from?

If I post it I am worried it will disappear however the middle flight is from New York to Chicago.

If we don't know what the routing is, we can't suggest whether there is better or not.

Based on the info posted, if the highest class of flight is I, as per QF's earning table it would post as Business. It needs to be A or P to post as first.

Also check Discounted First Class and Flyer Talk Fares where ATL = the airport you want to leave from.

Likewise, without the routing, it is hard to accurately work things out. Here's my guess based on the information provided:

- The flrst flight will be in F as it is a 2 class flight (F / Y).
- The ex-JFK flight has two classes Y/J, and will end up in Business on that flight. (Some flights may have F, but IIRC most are only 2 classes)

If both sectors are in I class, then they will likely credit to QF as Business only.

Ok, have thought about this a bit more.

First flight must be a regional jet, so I'm assuming something like Washington. Third flight must also be a regional jet, so I'm assuming something like Detroit.

Looking further into ex-JFK flights, I can't find any that are 3 class (or 2 class J/Y) to ORD.

So I'm not sure where the I class comes into the equation. Either way, you should end up in F on the middle sector.

When going through the booking process on aa.com, what booking class do each of the sectors get booked in and what seats can you assign?

YYZ-LGA will be economy only since it is a beagle flight
LGA-ORD might be in 1st
ORD-DCA will depend on the fllight; about half the flighs are economy only so if on one of those it will be economy

Unless wanting to visit new York, can just do YYZ-ORD-DCA or YYZ-BOS-DCA and save a lot of time

When I did a dummy booking it wasn't offering me a seat selection. Or I didn't look hard enough. I looked the flight numbers up on seat guru to look at the maps.

and DC to visit a grave at Arlington National.
This one?;)

I would also highly recommend a visit to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

If you're a real aviation enthusiast catch the bus from the front of the Smithsonian A&S out to the Annex near DC airport. The Enola Gay, an SR71, a Concorde and plenty of others are out there.

I'm visiting Sgt Branic who was the unknown soldier of Guadalcanal. Some brilliant detective work by an Aussie military historian resulted in a dna test and Sgt Branic being returned home.

I love the Smithsonians. Will be visiting the Air In Space Museum (Simpsons fans will get it) and might go see Dorothy's ruby red slippers again.

I've just played on the American version of the AA site and the same flights as an instant upgrade are US$1300+. It books into Y, A and Y.
