Should I change flights for a better chance of an upgrade?

Hi,

My partner and I are flying SYD-SIN on QF81 this Friday Aug 21 in economy. We are waitlisted for an upgrade, but as far as I can tell there is only one business class seat available. We should be able to change to the MEL-SIN flight (QF35) at no extra cost, and I think there are 4 business seats available. We are lowly Bronze, so don't have any priority.

What are our chances of an upgrade out of Melbourne? Happy to change flights for an upgrade, but would stick with the Sydney flight in economy as it gets in earlier.

Thanks

There are no business class seats left at all on Friday's QF81, so you definitely won't get an upgrade on that flight. You could go via MEL as you say, but to be honest I think your chances there are pretty slim too. It looks like there are only 3 J seats left on QF35, and any Platinum, Silver or Gold members will get priority over you as a Bronze member in the upgrade lottery.

Can you change to the QF51 from Brisbane? There seems to be tons of business class seats left (at least 9, maybe more) on Friday's service.

There are also a few seats left on QF5, the other SYD-SIN flight that day but that aircraft appears to be a domestic configuration A330 with recliner seats! So possibly a good one to avoid.

Thanks Mattg. We could change to the Brisbane flight, but that will get us in a bit too late, as we are meeting up with friends. Will keep it in mind for next time though.
