Should I be able to book BKK-HKT with Qantas?

Hi,

I read a while ago that Qantas had entered a codeshare with Bangkok Airways. I thought this would mean I could book BKK-HKT online through the Qantas site?

Have I misunderstood the codeshare arrangements or you have to ring up to get prices and book?

Thanks,

Dale.

Many codeshares (and I suspect this to be the case in this instance) are only to be sold in conjunction with other larger travel.

eg. enabling you to book
SYD-BKK-USM via Qantas.

I would think it unlikely that you will be able to book the segments alone under a QF code.

In theory you can only book the codeshare flights as part of a Qantas itinerary with other Qantas travel on that itinerary.

Oh well - thanks anyway.

I was booking an Aadvantage award from HBA-SYD-BKK on Qantas but obviously Bangkok is not part of OW so can't continue to HKT on my Aadvantage award.

It seems I have 2 choices to go from BKK to HKT - either Thai or Bangkok Air - is there any advantage to using Bangkok as connecting on Qantas? Just wondering if the Qantas flight is delayed would they help out with connecting flights?

We have paid travel insurance so that should cover it anyway.

Didn't want to use MH to get to HKT more directly so going with Qantas.

I have connected a few times from other airlines on separate tickets at BKK to Bangkok Airways flights. I left at least a 4 hour transit in case of a delay on the in bound, and placed hope in travel insurance in case the connect didn't work (which it did, thankfully).

Your other alternative would be to get your AAward to fly you to SIN, and then connect onto a Deathstar Asia flight SIN-HKT.

I don't think you will be protected with a QF-PG connection unless on same ticket.

I have left 5 hours on previous trip and end May I am arriving on CX mid afternoon from SIN and will choose an evening departure on PG going to CNX.

You cannot book QF codeshare flights eg LAX/YVR or BKK/HKT in isolation ie it must be booked in the same pnr as your SYD/BKK QF flight. If flights are in the same pnr it's possible to have your baggage through check to HKT if same day as QF & PG do have a baggage interline agreement & IIRC an IATCI one so you should also get your PG boarding passes also. If overnighting in BKK you'd have to collect your bags & recheck the next day.

If you've booked a separate ticket on TG or PG from BKK/HKT you will not be able to have your bags through checked to your final destination as neither TG or PG are members of the OW Alliance.

The fact that there is a codeshare agreement between QF & PG does not help you if you are booked on a PG marketed flight in a separate pnr. Any flights booked in separate pnrs must still be members of the OW Alliance in order to have bags through checked on separate pnrs.
