Should I aim to requalify DJ Gold or try to requalify QF WP?

Okay I've been SG or QP for quite a few years and got comped to SG with DJ late last year like many members. It came through just before I hit WP with QF for the first time.

I hardly used to fly DJ at all mainly because I was just another scumbag to them but with the SG came The Lounge access and seating priority plus not charging for baggage - all the things that were barriers to me flying with them were removed.

As I regularly fly SYD-TSV and DJ has a direct flight both ways I started using them. Also on the odd occasion when visiting other capitals if the price was right I'd book DJ. I've still flown QF on a few sectors but the SCs are not building up with the reduced flying this year. QF has no direct SYD-TSV flights and connection times are poor through BNE so it takes all day to go up or back.

Renewal date is 31 October.
Currently I have a dismal 250 QF SCs and need another 950 SCs to retain WP. I have enjoyed access to the Business lounges and especially the F lounge at SYD (once!). At least I get to access that again later in the year for a NZ trip with the family.
If I don't get any more SCs for the year the worst that can happen is that I get busted back to SG? I've missed out on the double SCs this time so no real chance.

As for DJ I AM on double SCs and have 180 towards my 400 to requalify by end Sept. I guess it's a no-brainer.

No point in wasting points on QF JASA fares this time I guess.

The way I see it. Considerations made for requalifiying should be determined by expected travel for the next year, Unless you're going to hit the req'd SC's very early in your current year. Given that it seems most of your travel this year *and* next year will be on DJ, its probably worth chasing it with them instead.

I would aim to requal DJ then worry about SG next year, there is not much difference between SG and WP these days.

I've probably made my last booking with Virgin, just using up all my credits from cancelled flights.

I really can't understand why people would pay out good money to attain status with DJ. They don't have any sensible affiliated airlines (eg One World alliance) and earning/redemption rates are quite expensive. And the girlies are still there (although a little subdued by the new boss).

It's just not for me.

Didn't you recently post a dodgy comment about not being status matched within the status match period when everyone was being matched?

I'm hooked on the QF J lounges but you are a fair way off plat.... Maybe go for QF plat next membership year and plan your travel accordingly?

IMO, I would stick with VA for this year. It's a pity as you will need to climb back up to 1400SC rather than 1200.....however, If it's a matter of just falling over the line - choose the closest one:-|

You're in a great position, you can choose, without losing too many benefits, you're preferred carrier without being trapped by elite status.

I'm maintaining both platinums this year, next year I will choose one.

But the way I see it is simple (at the moment), Virgin are not as good as Qantas with lounges in Aus and OS as a WP; but Virgin is constantly improving their offer - whilst Qantas has been limiting their offer - and I feel that the benefits will be focussed on the WP1's not the WPs.

We'll see. But I think you chill with DJ for a bit - 900 is a silly status run, although many on here have done it..... dunno why if they never fly.
