Should football teams have The Lounge access ?

Capacity control should have been part of the Lounge God/dess process. If the team was to take the numbers beyond the maximum, they should have denied access to some, if not all.

I was in The Lounge with the BNE Lions a couple of weeks ago, similarly they were well mannered, queued correctly, spoke to patrons and signed autographs. They also took up the entire AFF section, so were mostly out of sight

Didn't know the lounges have an AFF section. Where might this section be?

My wife and I were in the ADL Lounge on Saterday when the St Kilda football team and their entire support staff entered. This Lounge is not large by any means and it was soon full. They gradually began grazing the breakfast bar and queued for coffees etc.
They did not misbehave in any way and were not loud, but we were a bit overwhelmed and eventually left before our flight was called.
We just didn't feel relaxed or comfortable

Has anyone else felt intimidated by 30 odd people entering The Lounge in about 10 minutes ?

I visited the OOL lounge on the opening weekend and arrived to find the entire Suns team in there… needless to say, couldn’t see a seat, though did eventually find my group and find a spare seat. Was very full though, until they left!

No different to any organisation IMHO, should businessman be denied entry at 6AM on a Monday morning just because there are a lot of them?

Yes :D

In the BNE line it’s the quiet corner, hiding behind the curtains the the right of the entrance desk when you enter.

I would rather share the Lounge with 30 footy players than 3 children.

I guess that depends on the parents. My daughter has been in and out of the lounge since she was 6 and has been less noticeable than most adults from the first visit. Trouble is now at 9 she is always telling me that a particular person should be more quite or shouldn't take so much food or isn’t dress appropriately etc. Fortunately, she has also learnt there is time and place so is like this in the lounge not all the time.

So why is called the AFF corner? Do there be AFF meetups in that location, or am I likely to stumble across habitual resident AFF posters should I venture into said location.

Probably because only AFF members wander deep enough into lounges to 'discover' that portion of the BNE lounge ;).

I discovered it myself - after visiting the BNE lounge about ten times post-refurbishment - when looking for somewhere to make a phone call without annoying anyone. it was only on my way back out of that area (which was completely unoccupied by anyone else before, during and after my call) that I noticed the minute 'quiet zone' signs. Oops.

It was a sweeping, generalised statement.
My daughter has done the same. She is 12 next week, but has been Lounging since she was 7. She knows the rules and the boundaries. She knows to wait at the soft drink machine or the food tables until ALL adults have served themselves. She has been told (by me) that people are in there to work and to relax before their flight. I am sure anyone here on this forum does the same for their kids.
Unfortunately we seem to be in the minority.

Last year an AFF member had a portion of that section cordoned off for a birthday party, and several meetups have occurred around there too.

Hi Major,
I have been in various lounges when Hawthorn, West Coast Eagles and St Kilda have been through. Like allot of people have mentioned they were all well behaved and queued for coffees food etc. What I found interesting is that some of the teams have special meal packs made up, and also if it is after a game almost all of the players are on their macs watching an analysis of the game.
I agree it gets a bit crowded and not very relaxing when an AFL team is in the lounge as there's alot more noise, less seatc etc but it doesn't happen very often and as such doesn't bother me. I find it interesting if nothing else to see how a AFL team travels and functions together.

Cheers,
EuroFlyer

Surely the teams risk management would dictate that they entire team doesnt travel on the same flight, interesting, wonder if they do all show up at the QC and then board the same flight all together.

Even if the individual teams aren't too concerned, the AFL's sponsorship risk team would, no doubt, be discouraging the teams from being seen anywhere near a QC when travelling on official business :p.

On topic... I've seen entire professional sports teams travelling together fairly often. I guess they figure if you spread yourselves over three flights, that's just tripling the chance that some of you will get hurt.

I too would have thought that there was risk management in place. It would be terrible if another Munich incident happened (Munich air disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). I suppose that they have calculated the risks and found that they are acceptable though.

I am on the same 7.10pm flight as Richmond next Saturday coming back after the game. The entire front half of the aircraft is blocked out. The best seat I, as a Gold member, can get is something like row 14.
Just for interest's sake, what happens when you are refused Lounge entry because it is too full? Vouchers? Nothing?

Zambia lost its entire Soccer team in a plane crash in 1993.

Nothing. No soup for you.

When the AFL still flew QF I remember being in MEL one day when the Collingwood team entered the lounge. As with the other teams mentioned here, they were quiet and respectful of others.

This fulfils my criteria of acceptable behaviour. Any body who is eligible for entry and behaves this way is welcome as far as I am concerned.
