Next stop was Chelsea Market.

Very nice inside! Not your typical market.

The reason we walked all the way there, and it was long walk, is to have lunch at The Lobster Place.

01477227813.jpg

It's currently peak season for Maine lobsters, yum!

01477227844.jpg

We basically walked back to the beginning of High Line

01477227887.jpg

Now going to walk back up again via different route because the best way to experience Manhattan is by foot.

Hope you can use it :) Book normal ticket, take the print with you and show it at the counter on the day together with your card to receive the express pass.

Since the normal tickets are for same day use only I would wait until 3-4 before the wanted date to book.
The reason is to try predict the weather as much as possible as you don't want to be up there on rainy day.

If you have MasterCard Platinum then sign up for MasterPass and you get free express pass upgrade.

The normal queue looked quite long but not too terrible. No queue at all for express pass holders.

Storing for my NYC trip next June :)

Walking up towards Times Square looking for nice cafe stop for break but all we could see was Starbucks on each corner so we had no choice and had beer in a sport bar near Madison Square Garden.

Times Square was crowded as expected.

The naked cowboy is in the house, business as usual.

The ladies love him!

View of Grand Central, Grand Hyatt and Chrysler Building in the background.

Inside Grand Central Terminal, the biggest train station in the world by number of platforms.

People watching in New York is never boring...

When in the area, and you will be in the area at some point when visiting NYC, it worth going inside to have a look.

We had 19:15 booking (to catch both sunset and night views) for Top of the Rock. Booked combo ticket with MoMA, which will visit tomorrow.

01477619508.jpg

The queue going up wasn't too bad but later going down was a long wait. After sunset it became cold and windy upstairs so many people decided to leave at the same time.

New York Day 3

Started as usual with breakfast at hotel.

01477734105.jpg

Coffee served in supersized cup :D

01477734140.jpg

The coffee, as expected, was cough but the fresh bagels with cream cheese were sooo good.

01477734161.jpg

Some daylight photos of the interesting Conrad atrium.

01477734187.jpg

01477734214.jpg

Later we took the metro to 5th Ave and went to visit MoMA, admiring paintings by Van Gogh, Picasso, Braque and also one very cool vintage Jaguar.

01477734286.jpg

Next we had tickets for the Broadway musical School of Rock. We used the TodayTix app for last minute deals and managed to score to tickets for $70.

01477734312.jpg

Back to 5th Ave and short walk towards Central Park where we hired bikes for three hours ride. Our goal was to circle the park and make three major stops on the way, at Guggenheim museum, Strawberry Fields and Bow Bridge.

Cycling around the park was very easy most of the time and we were blessed with perfect sunny day.

01477734505.jpg

The view are stunning, such a peaceful place in the middle of one of the busiest cities.

Strawberry Fields - John Lennon memorial.

One major country is missing from this list:

Finished the day with dinner at Porter House in Columbus Square, short walking distance from Central Park.

01477735979.jpg

As the name suggests, they specialise in steaks and delivered a great cut.

01477736022.jpg

Matched with American Syrah from Sonoma Coast.

01477736054.jpg

Finished with traditional New York cheese cake.

The service was unbelievable, always someone with eyes on the tables in case anyone needs anything. Warm bread was generously offered before and throughout the meal and the sommelier not only recommended us wines but also explained their origin and offered a taste of some different options.

Was perfect meal 10/10. Highly recommend this place.

Definitely miss decent bagels living in Australia.

My apologies interrupting the great TR boomy but thought I would add the bagels in Melbourne are improving (it's no NYC ;)) I work near 5 and Dime in the CBD and they are terrific and they do takeaway paper bag and all! My newest favourite is the jalapeño and cheddar it's amazing with cream cheese or peanut butter! They are also stocked in certain cafes and IGA's around the inner suburbs.

Take it away boomy enjoying this immensely!

New York Day 4

Another sunny day started with a walk along the Hudson River towards the Meatpacking District.
Love the old building with outside fire escape stairs.

+1 wanted to see Carrie Bradshaw's apartment from Sex and the City. The TV show ended in 2004 and I wasn't sure we could even find the place so imagine my surprise when I saw there was a queue to take photos in front of the house in 66 Perry St. Wow! I guess this show still has some very loyal followers.

We kept walking the streets, enjoying buildings and people watching. From West village we walked to East Village to have lunch at the famous Katz's Deli.

01477784205.jpg

This iconic New York delicatessen is open since 1888 and famous mostly for it's pastrami sandwiches. An absolute must visit when in the city.

Completely packed, total chaos inside but it's part of the charm of this place, feels like going back in time.

Rueben sandwich, yum!
