Short trip to NYC flying EK & SQ F

Time to check out the shower. EK have two of them in F, both very spacious although the one on A side slightly bigger. EK also have dedicated shower attendants who wear different uniforms and their sole responsibility is to keep the showers clean.

I love it how seriously EK treat the shower experience. Each pax gets 30 min shower time with 5 min of running water. On top of dedicated attendants they also offer full range of amenities.

Not only the floor is heated but pax can also control how warm they want it to be. How cool is that!!

Overall, EK get 10/10 for their shower experience.

You are painting a compelling picture of the EK F experience. So much so that I've spent a lazy hour searching all manner of routes and destinations, even to the point of wondering if a 5am or 6am departure would really be all that bad. (I think I need an intervention.)

Not an intervention. Except for ensuring you click the 'Book' button.

I was wondering if the shower was worthwhile on this flight. Will certainly participate. Will be my second as I did a cheeky one on the NZ leg but was the only one to do so.

Did the same on the NZ leg and have to say that not many did on the short hop. I suppose only enthusiast like us will partake in one :)

I've used the shower each time flown F ex-AKL. Once even got 'the look' for an Eastern European FA who also said: "You know flight time is only 3 hours". Yea I'm aware of that, can you please prepare the shower now? :)

After shower returned to my seat and found small fruit plate with orange flavoured honey dip.

It's a touch by EK FAs who prepare this for each pax who had shower.

The plan for outbound flights was to stay awake on the first leg (landing in SIN at 23:50) and sleep on the next leg to DXB. So instead of going to sleep I went online. EK provide free wifi but only 10MB, which is enough for... well not much. They do offer extra 500MB for $1. Yes, it is just $1!

Speed was acceptable but keeping in mind the whole upper deck was maybe 1/3 full.

Got up to get another glass of Paradis from the F bar.

This is a small self-serve bar located between the two showers and stocks exclusive drinks which most are not served in the bigger bar at the other end (more about that later in the TR).

Had Prawn Biryani as "snack" (love Dine on Demand).

The dish was better than it looks in the photo :)

There is also small (chilled) soft drink bar in each suite.
Good and practical idea I hope more airlines will adopt.

Relaxed in the seat, watched another movie and soon the first leg was over. Landed in SIN on time, stretched our legs, checked out the DF shops and eventually went to sit in the EK lounge. The lounge was very busy and honestly nothing special so didn't take any photos.

Time to board the second flight:
EK405 A380 SIN-DXB 7h 15m

It was exactly the same aircraft (and flight number) but this time F cabin was completely full. Although it was basically a continuation of the first leg we received new PJs and amenity kits, very generous!

Being an overnight flight (01:40 departure) the menu was relatively limited.

Breakfast menu

Light Bites

I decided to have "breakfast" right after takeoff and sleep all the way though to DXB, knowing I'll have another meal in the F lounge during transit.
While not on the menu, they had caviar leftover from previous flight so I had some :)
Also ordered Frittata from the menu.

It was ok but as most breakfast dishes on planes, nothing special.

Went to have shower and meanwhile FA made the bed.

I must say EK suite is lovely but feels a bit cramped when the doors are closed. There is no room at all between the seat and doors, not even small space for sleepers. Talking about first world problems... ;)

Had good 5 hours sleep, woke up refreshed and ready for the next leg but first had 4.5 hours stopover in DXB.

So jealous.

It's great that EK have the dine anytime option, with flexibility to eat anything available. Have to say having instant cup noodles available does seem to cheapen it somewhat!

Transit in DXB is not the most pleasant thing, especially if few A380s land at about the same time, something quite common at this airport. There is priority security line for J/F pax but it's not policed.

Finally passed security and got to the lifts going up to EK lounges. What were they thinking building those huge lounges but with tiny lifts leading to them...

First thing book massage. The list of treatments.

EK F lounge is by no means traditional looking lounge. It is HUGE! It even has its own duty free.

01476621252.jpg

Fully stocked luxury liquor shop inside.

01476621272.jpg

Plenty seating areas everywhere.

01476621309.jpg

I know many frequent flyers don't like this lounge because it doesn't feel as exclusive and inviting as other F lounges. To me it's like the Marina Bay Sands hotel - grand place but lacks sophistication and intimacy. Nevertheless I like this lounge and feel blessed to be able to enjoy the facilities during transits.

Wanted to have shower but there was queue so meanwhile went to get my shoes polished (just after this guy finish). Love the traditional chair, very cool!

01476622840.jpg

Working area has computers and meeting rooms.

01476622879.jpg

There is relaxation area - quiet zone - for couples or solo travellers who want to catch a snooze.

It's a shame that EK didn't utilise the space to add sleeping rooms like TK, LH, QR and others have done.

Did you tell them you were in F? That gives you priority over non-F passengers. They should do it automatically, but in my experience they don't unless you ask.

Didn't tell them but it's ok, on this occasion I wasn't in a hurry at all. Good to know for next time, later this year I'll be on QF2 with only two hours stopover in DXB.

yes it is useful when you don't have much time :)
