I'm looking at J fares for two Sydney to Rome next March and went online tonight to explore options for Classic Awards vs JASA.

Of course, there was nothing available in Classic Awards -- actually, that's not true: I could have booked a J fare and done much of the trip in Y! -- so I looked at JASA, choosing the options consuming the lowest points.

The JASA result for two pax:

Total points* for all passengers:
1,883,482

They're kidding right? How disappointing.

So it looks like I'm stuck with my Y+ bookings on BA which I got on sale earlier in the year for $3,100 a piece (and which I was going to cancel had the Classic Award or JASAs been reasonable and the BA cancellation fee not too steep).

Sigh.

The ASA's at classic point levels generally need to be on QF flight numbers.

Aside from that, for multi connections you generally need to be booking 11½ months out - it's way to late for March.

Yeah you have to look at flights to either LON or FRA and then find your way from LON/FRA with classic awards, other programs or cash if you want to keep costs down.

Wasn't the record 1+ million points, l person, Australia - Cancun ??? (Calling serfty....)

I saved 2,650,000 QFF points by booking 2 in Classic First for a one way to LAX. Before too long you could save 10 million points or more.
Every little bit helps!

Shockingly high ASAs were never meant to be bought, unless you have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many points to use for your own good.

With Classic Awards, the "hint" is you can't find what you want. With ASAs, the "hint" is that you have to bend over, like this. Take the hint.

For serial late bookers like us......classic is your friend:D

Just had a quick look.

Sydney - Cancun. 1.2 million each way, per person.

Return....

But for serial cheapskates like QF, Classic is so rarely available!

Not in my experience.

Depends on the route you want to take, carrier & number of tickets required......since joining QFF in 1996 we've re-deemed 45 x J & 7 x F long haul sectors.

4 of these were FASA or JASA

The other 48 were all classic awards.......interestingly, only 4 of these were on QF metal:shock: all the others were CX or BA.

All of these flights have been booked within 1-4 weeks of date of travel.

That is indeed pretty impressive; my luck has been much reduced. On the routes and the dates I wanted -- 6 months out -- for 2 pax there were indeed J class seats, but with large segments of the trip in Y! I've never had much luck with Classics. But I shall live in hope.

I had thought about buying Y and requesting a points upgrade but the stress of not knowing whether the upgrades would come through or not, would be too unpleasant I think. I much prefer certainty.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

How about a J return MNL-SYD:
Minimum Points:120,000
All Inclusive Points:22,323,942
Total Payment*
Points:22,323,942

I suspect there is something NQR about the foreign currency conversion with the Manila example
