12-day-old account

Sharing on last day (16 Oct) @ 4pm

Receipt & Miles came through today (18th Oct)

Later than some others' experience here.

But it's all good now.

BTW, it has an 18-mo inactivity clause IIRC. How do you keep it "alive" then, buying some little miles again ?

Did one about the same time. Came through this morning.

Last sharing @ 4pm yesterday - two hours before deadline

No receipt coming through yet

Account is exactly 12 days' old

Fingers crossed !

I had three transactions, each of 50k miles as follows...

A to B (with B having zero balance)

B to A

A to C

B ended up with 50k

C ended up with 100k

Third transaction, few hours before expiry of promotion, posted miles immediately whereas the first two took several days to post.

There are a number of ways to gain small activity on the account. I used to recommend points.com to move 1 point but it seems US not currently available as a transfer partner depite this capability being advertised both on the US and Points.com sites.

Strange, as all the bonus offers (including the one just finished) are run through points.com!

Youre telling me it's strange, in fact when I looked just before it seems United no longer available either. I think its just a bug rather than a change in policy but it has being going on for a while!

Now all this has finished up I thought I would let people know how I got on. As I stated earlier in the thread when the promotion came around I had already established family accounts (5) but no miles in any of them. I also opened an account for one of my siblings partners on the day the promo started. The following is what I managed to do:

Buy in AA-1000
Share A to BB-2000 (1000)
Share B to AA-4000 (2000)
Share A to BB-8000 (5000)
Share B to AA-16000 (10000)
Share A to BB-32000 (21000)
Share B to AA-64000 (42000)
Share A to CC-98000
Balance in AA-15000
Share A to BB-30000 (36000)
Share C to BB-46000 (44000)
Balance in CC-90000
Final Account Balances
Share B to DD-90000
Share C to EE-90000
Share C to FF-90000

Note: Values in brackets was tracking the amount of bonus miles each account had received.

Total cost: USD$3300 (AUD$3491)
90,000 miles cost: AUD$1163

Return J to Asia for approx $1350 AUD.

I had no issues with instant transactions to all accounts until the final one to the one new account created at the start of the promo. All transfers were done with the one credit card carrying my surname which is the same surname as the 5 established accounts. Some may think what I did was a bit risky but it was all legitimate transactions within the T&C's of the promotion. It is an interesting one when they run the share promotion because I feel it is expected that people will be buying miles for others.

Very good! You did quite a lot in fifteen days. I suppose you'll just wait for the next buy (or share) promo to top up a few more points before redeeming?

It's probably that all the 5 accounts have the same surname that nothing was really suspicious (i.e. taken for granted you're sharing amongst family).

Had it involved other surnames things might get a bit suspicious, but that sucks if you're legitimately sharing with spouses or friends.

No waiting required at all have already redeemed all 3 lots of 90,000 miles for Australia to Japan return with stopovers in Southeast Asia so am fully back at square one with zero miles in all accounts again, haha.
