Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

Welcome Marsonline, and thanks for the tip :)

Just checked the US Airways website and it appears to be open for all. That said, it appears to be 1-15 Oct as the title suggests.

It's only a half-month bonus, so anyone without an account needs to sign up now.

Excellent.

My wife and I have 100k each in our accounts and I'm aiming for the magic 150k to get to Europe travelling F in 2015 for the World Cup.

Time to start sharing.

Not me, just signed up my mother-in-law!

Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

Thought we wouldn't see one of these again, have to admit.

Probably half-kicking myself - convinced the folks and my sister to cash in on the 100% buy bonus last month for a potential AU to North America trip next year in J. Now this comes along and the realisation that they could've racked up all the required miles much cheaper.

Ah well, that's gambling, but they'll still probably come after me a little bit. At least the last 10k they require will be very cheap.

Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

I always get a little confused with the share/gift thing.

My other half has 22,000 miles in her account which I would like to move across to mine, by sharing these it will cost $220+tax, and I will end up with 44,000 miles. Is this correct? If so, after a terrible day at work it would make it that little bit better!

There is also a $30 fee so 220 plus 30 plus tax.

This is actually quite wierd, was just thinking last night what US would do for a promo and I should sign my mother-in-law up just case.

Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

Signed up for a US Airways account, but not sure I'll buy points with the merger "coming soon"

Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

Thanks OP. Will buy miles for my kids to travel before year-end.

Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

Here we go again  With so many people now on USDM it's a case of booking very early once again, those F seats are coming hard to get by :-|

Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

So can someone explain cheapest way, how to get from 0 to 90000 miles with this promo?

Meh, has always been the case. Not helping when the number of carriers and F seats are shrinking considerably. For those that want particular F seats, even more difficult.

Having tried a bit of F there is out there on the *A, I've resolved for USDM (for my parents and sister) to just fly them in J. Besides, for the next destinations they're thinking of, there's really only one (or two) F experience(s) they can have, and they're not really willing to position for it. Might as well forgo it and have more choice with J redemptions!

Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

Wow - didn't think we'd see another share bonus until at least next year. For anyone who is confused about the various costs let me say very clearly that this share bonus makes it even cheaper to get miles than a 100% buy bonus which you may be used to seeing. This is how I managed to go J to Iceland this year for under $2000 return pp (incl everything). You can bounce back and forth as much as you want (I had 4 accounts and started from 0).

Even though I'm completely out of leave and have all my travel for the next year planned, I've got 8k miles in one account when they charged me the wrong mileage for a trip so considering bouncing miles to get enough for a second GUM trip (even though haven't even commenced my first GUM trip). I think it gets J to GUM down to under USD400 + fees and taxes pp!

J's comfortable no doubt about that but when F is only 30,000 more to Europe (or even USA) that's around $380 or so more under the share promo, it's close enough to a no-brainer. However, F does have limited options, and with what appears/feels to be much more people now on this band wagon, it is a very good idea for those thinking of flying F to book fast and book early :)

This doesn't really answer your question directly, but this FT thread from last time the promo appeared might be useful:100% Bonus Miles (share) through 10/31/12 - FlyerTalk Forums

Basically you can get up to 50,000 miles at the share bonus rate of $0.01 per mile + $30 per transfer, per account. The answer to the cheapest way to 90,000 miles depends on how many accounts you can transfer miles back and forth between. Each account can only get 50,000 bonus.

Agree with you on that one, but for my folks (we're all based in BNE), after their last trip, I think J will be good enough for them. When Mum and Dad were heading home on TG F connecting to TG J, Dad was so tired he went to the nearest TG lounge (which was a J one) and vehemently refused to move, even if it meant he had access to the F lounge. Also, my Mum will still take J even if it's only $380 more for F (she looks at it as saving $380, not getting a higher cabin for a bargain).

Also, if they have to reposition to SYD to get the most F, they're not going to like that.

Overall, it's a horses for courses. Also, had we known this promo was on - "benefit of hindsight!" - it might be a different case (since obtaining F via this promotion compared to J entails a much smaller differential compared to obtaining F versus J using the buy bonus promotion).

Certainly, if you haven't experienced F before and you'd like to do so, jumping on this promotion would be a double whammy good idea - (a) to get F at the cheapest rate, and (b) taking advantage of a promo which doesn't come around very often at all. (That said, the disadvantage of this promo is that you need points to start with to "seed" - if you are at a cold start, that's a little problem).

Re: USDM Share Miles 100% Bonus 1 - 15 Oct 2013

Do you have to already have miles to take advantage of this? I.e. I had signed SWMBO up, but neither of us have any miles in the account but I'm thinking now could be a good time to get on the USDM bandwagon?
