Any hotel or area recommendations?
I see there's a few IC properties in the heart of shanghai, which will be best?
Happy to look at non IHG properties too without breaking the bank ofcourse.
It will be our first time in shanghai so will be exploring a lot. Looking at 4 or 5 night stay in January.

Thank you

Can only give experiences I have..

IC Pudong often relatively cheap and just outside the main part of Pudong.. About 200m from metro across three sets of lights. Older property with a cool central atrium, some external renovations starting when I stayed six months ago.

My only other stay is probably less relevant for tourism as it was halfway to Suzhou
At the
Hualuxe Kunshan Huaquaio (next door to a Holiday Inn) - stunning property in a quiet park setting and high-rises. Also 200m to metro across a park.
(They also gave me a cracking suite upgrade but the Club was closed for the 3-days so got some vouchers instead)

The IC Wonderland (in an old quarry) has an amazing design (and some underwater rooms) and nightly light shows, but a fair way out, maybe worth one night.

Also if you want to do Disney can recommend the HIX Shanghai Kangqiao as being close and decent enough.
(Two free morning buses, first just makes early access, and one evening bus to the park, but otherwise one metro stop and a quick Uber away).

The Crowne Plaza, Nanjing Road. It’s close to everything… People’s Park (metro to everywhere), Nanjing Road pedestrian mall (takes you right to the Bund), museums dot around People’s Park.

Jing’An is too far out for tourist purposes… you can visit the temple there but I wouldn’t stay in that area.

If it’s your first time I highly recommend the free walking tours by this company: Profile of Free Tours China | Freetour.com I used to live in Shanghai but visited recently with a friend who had not been before… I thought the tour was pretty good and covered the essentials. I’d probably do more than one!

Drinks at Barbarossa in People’s Park is a must. Also drinks one night at the Long Bar at the Waldorf Astoria on the Bund. And of course drop in at the Peace Hotel (if you can get through the crowds! Although it might not be so busy in January)

Definitely around Nanjing Rd if first time visitor / tourist.

Pretty much all the chains have something.
