Shanghai Layover 4.5 Hours

Hi team

We are going to be waiting at the Shanghai International airport for 4.5 hours for our connecting flight to Beijing.

Definitely too short to go to the city.
Is there anything interesting nearby or we better just wait at the airport?

Any tips re lounges will be greatly appreciated.

Our airline is Juneyao Air and we get into Shanghai at about 4.30pm ish

Nothing around Shanghai airport I’m afraid.

You could ride the maglev back and forth, that would take about an hour by the time you walk to the station, wait for the next departure, return journey, and walk back. Your airline tickrt/boarding pass gets you a discount, 10RMB. I can’t remember if they have a special for an immediate return.

Lounges are ‘ok’, nothing much to rave about but a welcome place to sit and have a coffee and a small snack. They’ll send you to their preferred lounge. Or if you have priority pass you could check your options.

I think it’s PVG-PKK… the new airport for Beijing

Possibly enough time for a quick L2 metro from the monorail to see the view from the Bund and Nanjing Rd if you haven't been to Shanghai before.. but all depends on immigration and your risk tolerance.

Yes…in theory it’s doable… 40 mins from arrival hall to Loyang Lu (including finding the maglev station, ticket purchase and wait time), 20-30 mins to E Nanjing Road, 10 mins walk to bund, 20 mins there, 10 mins walk back, 20 mins to Loyang Lu, 20 mins to get back to the airport (including wait time), 15 mins to get to check-in.

I reckon about 2hrs45mins to do all that, with only 20 mins at the Bund, and assuming no extended wait times, difficulty buying tickets or getting lost. Plus time to clear immigration inbound and security for outbound, and boarding 30 mins prior.

It would be challenging?

If the Juneyao airlines lounge is free, I’d go in. If i had to pay… errr… not so sure!
