Would this be part of the long awaited entry of MH to OneWorld coming do you think?

I hope that QF picks up the slack from 1st April! I am travelling on MH on the 31st and credit to Velocity, the trip home in Mid April will now need to be looked at:(

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

MH's entry into oneworld has been underway for a long period of time, and Virgin has been pursuing the alliance with SQ for over a year. I doubt the end of the MH tie-in a few months after the SQ alliance started and a few months before MH enters oneworld is of particular surprise to Velocity. I'd even go as far to speculate that dropping MH from Velocity was a condition of SQ coming onboard?

Probably, but the would have also had negotiate an end to the existing agreement with MH

Wow looks like Virgin didn't get much notice!

Indeed not much notice. A bit tough for customer who may have chosen MH over another airline (say TG) based on ability to earn Velocity FF points.

In hindsight VA prob should seem this coming and planned their own withdrawal months ago with SQ coming on board.

On the positives hope QF and MH come to an agreement soon.

In hindsight VA prob should seem this coming and planned their own withdrawal months ago with SQ coming on board.

VA had been plotting a withdrawal. From July last year:

Virgin Australia will seek to end its relationship with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) as it pursues a partnership with aviation powerhouse Singapore Airlines (SIA).

...

"Therefore there is no prospect of a broader relationship with Malaysia Airlines," the application said.

"As a result of both the proposed alliance and Malaysia Airlines' decision to join oneworld, both parties will discuss termination of their existing relationship."

well this is annoying. the folks are traveling syd-del-syd on MH just after the 1st and returning late april. points and SC were to be family pooled on Velocity to my brother and moi
any clever ideas what to do with points now??

From memory, trying to book reward flights on MH through Velocity was a drama in itself e.g. 1) you had to ring up to find availability and 2) the prices were so astronomically expensive that it was just not worthwhile.

I'm not lamenting this loss

I almost booked MH to BKK ... although I knew things were rumbling slowly in the background one gets lulled into a false sense of security because all these types of things take soooo long.

Anyway, if I had booked and got disappointed by no VFF points I'd probably just warehouse the points in Enrich for a little while ... they are surely going to join OW in the next couple of months (surely?)
