Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions on sending stuff home?

- Is it better /cheaper to upgrade luggage through the airline (BA)?
- Find a courier
- Do it from Hong Kong instead?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

I am sure it has changed since but I sent around 6kgs home from London in 2007 using the post office and the total cost from memory was ~AUD80. I guess the more you send and the cheaper the cost becomes per kg.

Check yellow pages for courier companies and get quotes for standby/offpeak rates. You may find some cheap rates if you don't mind it taking a few weeks.

You can get away with it relatively cheaply (all things considered) if using only BA (not possible if you're heading through HKG though) by using the upsize offer, and then paying for a 2nd bag.

Have you thought of flying through the US instead? BA LHR-JFK or LAX, then QF the rest of the way. Checked Baggage Allowance The baggage allowance is pretty good on QF for that sector.
