Hi,

Due to ill health I am unable to fly overseas. I read recently that it is possible to sell QFF points but I read that I was not able to sell them due to the terms and conditions of the frequency flyer program. I am correct in assuming this as I believed the points where mine to do with as I wished. Cash for miles contacted me offering money for my points (225K) and wanted to find out if anybody had deal with this company. If I have to transfer the points how is this possible? Any information you could give me would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Leo

I'm pretty sure that selling points is against the T&Cs of QFF and if discovered, your account, and the points are likely to be cancelled.

I wouldn't touch 'Cash for points'.

If you want to monetise your points, you can turn them into vouchers at the Qantas Points store. Or you can buy other stuff. Not the best value, but you run the risk of losing the lot if you try to sell them.

Do you know how 'Cash for Miles' was able to get in touch with you?

I think you will find that not too many people will want to discuss this on a forum like this. It is against the T&C's of the program regardless of your impressions that they are "your to do with as you wish". It may not worry you if you get caught but it certainly worries the rest of us who don't want our accounts closed and points forfeited.

I have no idea but i did receive an email about 2 years ago which i replied to out of curiousity.

You may not sell your QFF points. Qantas is proactive in enforcing this term.

You can use your points to buy tickets for family members (which Qantas defines quite broadly to include cousins etc).

Selling points is against the terms and conditions. But not illegal.

Just out of interest, how much did they offer you for the points? I reckon they'd sell those on to a buyer for around $5000-6000. Would be interesting to see what their profit margin is.

Just did a quick check, 100000 QF points would get $600

Just a heads up to members, this thread is a discussion of a company willing to buy points, which is against the T&C of the Qantas program. Members offering to buy or sell points on this website will also fall afoul of the AFF T&C. If you have been contacted, please get in touch with a Moderator or Administrator.

For 108,000 QF points you can get $600 worth of Woolworths gift vouchers from Qantas. Close enough to cash and not risking your points or breaking any T&Cs.

Or book flights for your relatives, nothing stopping them from returning the favour in some form.

For 225000 they offered $1350.00

256K is a return to London in business class. 192K is a return Australia to USA in business class. They'd be selling those points on in the region of $4000+ for the USA, and $5000+ for Europe. They'd be collecting a massive profit on the transaction. You'd be better using those points for family members.

OP, your post says you are not able to fly overseas, but can you still fly domestically? If so, your points could be well utilised in a few nice trips around Australia. If not, and you really want to get rid of the points, I concur with others who have suggested either using them for family members or in purchasing vouchers.

There are a couple of guys on the ozbargain forums that purchase QFF points, they seem to buy at a rate of 1cent per point.

I don't know how their system works exactly but they seem to be covered as their purchase/trade method hasn't been busted (yet).

As I undestand it they pay you for up front the points @ 1 cent each and you give them access to your account!, they buy tickets from there, so no transfers. One guy on Ozbargain classifieds has bought millions of points.

Selling points is against the terms and conditions but it's not illegal. I didn't have what to do with my 350k points as I have a family of little kids and don't fly often at all. I sold them for 3500 USD. I haven't had any issues. They booked tickets and the passengers flew. I am still accumulating points.

Don't make a habit of it.
In the past on here, we did have a QF rep, but thats no longer.
But I wouldn't put it past QF to keep an eye out on here once in a while.
We also don't tend to bring up old topics that don't have a reply for a while unless its very important.
Yes, you made good money for it, but don't be surprised that in the end, if QF find out, and they know who you are, you have your QF account suspended.
I wouldn't crown/coo about your gain too widely either, if you value your QFF account, best not to say about things that are not illegal, but not to QF's liking.
People have had their QFF account suspended, while QF "looks" into them.
And yes. I do talk a lot of bull on here.
