Security proof shoes and belts?

Darwin has the right idea with shoes et.al. Walk through the metal detector. Oops it goes off. You get ushered to a 2nd metal detector which must be calibrated differently and doesn't go off.

No shoe removal etc.

As already discussed, certain airports have more sensitive machines than others. Even different machines in the same airport can have different sensitivities. Weird!

If you have metal based shoes, there are certain techniques you can use to make them not trigger.

I agree with the other posts about buying specific clothes that don't trigger easily the airport metal detectors. I hope more Australian stores start stocking these types of items clearly marked.

(Oh and with the U.S, the mandatory shoes off happened (IIRC) when the liquid bans came into play. Before that you could refuse and have them swabbed (IIRC). All of this has of course changed in recent times... )

This reminds me - i nee a new pair of deck shoes... I have used them a lot in my "flight suit" - a comfortable sweater (very thin), chinos and my Dockside Sebagos - they are starting to look a little tired though so a good excuse to replace before my next mamoth trip in March...

I really prep myself for WTMDs nowadays - even my new computer bag has a pre-assigned compartment for everthing I will remove before Xray and can easily be put back on :)

Hi everyone,

Found a brand here in Australia called 'ecco' shoes which look quite nice and are comfortable, and best of all, most models do not have any metal in them! Some polyutherene sole.

Thanks,
Mal
