Security Breach at MEL

This person could have had any intention, forgive me for being, negative, but if someone intentionaly entered the sterile zone without being screened, wouldn't they be hiding something?

This happened to me in BNE not too long ago, we all got kicked out of the sterile zone and waited as they checked the area for any objects left behind, then re-screened everybody. Long process, and a lot of angry pax! This is when the priority security line would be, very, very, helpful!

Like i said something is missing here. I just can't see someone walking back into the sterile area like what has been reported to have happened.

There would've been other passengers exiting through these doors/gates and usually there is a constant flow of them coming through (especially around 0900-0930). And can be very hard to have 1 person pushing through while many others are exiting, they are pretty narrow.

And then the alarm ALWAYS goes off and shuts the first door, so why didn't it go off and shut this time? Then where was the security member? (i have never seen no-one there, even at 11pm, when there are only 1-5 arrivals).

I do hope as everybody left, they found this man and took him in for further questioning.

The change from Chubb to MSS Security says it all.

You get what you pay for....................

Been there for atleast 2 years though..

I know what it was. There was meant to be a ASU Union meeting for staff today around that time (which was then cancelled for next week), must've been mgmt playing funny buggers  (puts on tin foil hat)

So you walk through the exit door with your gun/knife/nitting needles/water bottle/<insert terrorist weapon of choice>. A few minutes later they sound the alarm and everybody, including yourself has to exit. But of course in this time you have dropped your terrorists weapon in your receptacle/hidy hole of choice.

You dont even have to line up with the masses and be re-screened and risk being identified. You disappear into the night (or morning in this case) while your other terrorist mate just goes through later on and picks up said device.

Am I missing something??

When something similar happend to me at BNE a little while ago, we all had to exit the sterile zone, while we waited for the AFP to check the terminal for items left behind. It took about 30mins, but surley they couldn't check everything in that time... Particually if it was hidden well.... Think about all the places in the QP alone.

However.... maybe with the removal of anytime access he couldn't go in to drop his weapon? :p

Am I the only one who thinks the TWU was far too quick off the mark getting in front of the media on this incident?

Granted their members are already trying to cause industrial hell for the airline, but am I too much of a conspiracy theorist to think they might have set this up to happen?

There is about to be a report on Ch9 in QLD if anyone is interested.

However, being Ch9, I'm sure, the entire thing was QF's fault, and a QF staff member directed the man to enter the security channel the wrong way. ;)

A cynical, but not unlikely, hypothesis......

The timing of it, just when the unions are starting their industrial push, is just too convenient for words ..... and I'm not a big believer in coincidences .....

But then again, if he'd arrived off a QF flight earlier that day he could've!
