Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I use the fingers comb, means no comb, hairbrush or dryer. Give it a go in the privacy of your own home, its quite liberating. But, I understand that it may not suit everyone.

I air dry my hair too but there is no way I am leaving my straighteners behind!!

I always air dry my hair too - even at home. But I do take my Instyler Ionic Hot Brush with me, it is dual voltage and I only need assorted plugs, which Ron usually takes.

I take a lot of medications - stuff like eye drops, ear drops, the gastrolyte sachets etc etc 'just in case'. Consequently my bag might weigh 15 kgs, while MrP sniggers a little at his 10 kgs. But guess who ends up needing the eye drops, ear drops, the tummy sachets? Not me!

This trip just after we left a port (at sea) MrP's eye swelled alarmingly. Underneath, not the actual eye. Retrieved ice from the buffet and it settled. Next morning his eyeball was very red. :(. Dug around for the eye drops and flushed the eyeball (new bottle). Sure enough immediate relief.

Did 16 nights (plus two over night flights) with HLO - and no washing. 18x underwear, 18x shirts, jeans, casual trousers, shorts, bathers, bike shorts, exercise top, walking boots, runners, thongs, 500g ground coffee, aero-press, chargers, tablet.

Wore walking boots (heavy & bulky), one warm jacket (flying out of winter, into summer), kindle, phone, wallets in jacket, almost all clothes in one wheel-aboard carry on, plus miscellaneous chargers, etc. Runners, thongs, electronics, coffee, fragile in small backpack. Was banking on the wheeled carry on being carry-on and the small back pack being the additional personal item (wouldn't have worked with JQ), but would have checked the wheel-on if challenged as nothing fragile / valuable in it.

Worked a treat - the ability to walk straight through customs when arriving in US, not collect your checked bag and re-check for your domestic leg, and the ability to jump straight on the bus to the rental cars at your final destination.

Only downside - when I arrived back in Melbourne I was kerbside 10 minutes after getting to the gate, and 15 minutes after touchdown. My driver wasn't there yet, because I was too quick (even though I'd texted when I arrived and told him I'd be there soon). Just about to do 23 nights (plus 2 nights travelling) - may need to take some detergent this time to do some washing, but definitely not checking luggage.

I just had my hair permanently straightened - Korean rebonding. Now I can air dry and it looks like it's been straightened! It's not cheap but worth it to have hair that always looks blow dried, without the hassle or having to carry anything.

I wish my 'fingers comb' had a built in straightener!

Now that's something I may have to investigate before our extended holiday to South America next year!

Yes (but very little, and very small), and I packed it in my backpack and hung things like headphones, water bottle, jacket on the outside on the return journey.

Many years ago I had my hair straightened too. I just went to my local hair dresser and asked about it and they were able to do it. I don't know if the method that I had done was different to the method described by Rebekkap. So if Frankston is out of your way maybe just ask your local hairdresser.

To add something on topic... I am a one bag traveller when packing I ask myself if I need this item or if I am taking it just in case. If I am taking it just in case then 99% of the time I end up not taking the item. I can always buy it if I need it when I get there.

not really off topic - I mentioned it to start with because having my hair straightened means I don't have to find room for a travel sized hair straightener/hair dryer in my bag!

If it was many years ago it's unlikely to have been rebonding - they used to straighten hair by essentially perming it straight, rebonding is a pretty new technique. I'd suggest being very careful, and finding a hairdresser who specialises in rebonding - there are horror stories about hair breaking/falling out because hairdressers skip the conditioning step. Thus why I went to a Frankston even though it's not all that close to where I live.

Interesting re the rebonding! I had keratin straightening done about 5 years ago and happily put my GHD away - did not redo it as found it made my hair too flat (yes - want to have my cake and eat it too!).

I have my current GHDs thanks to a dash to Ricky's in NYC about 30 mins before my car was arriving to take me to JFK as the ones I had decided to die and I knew it would be at least 4 days before I'd get to the shops after landing in AU and I was not willing to scare people that much!!

You all put me to shame... I find it close to impossible to do HLO for any longer than 2 nights..
I'll certainly be packing a checked bag for 3 nights in AKL this week... Inconvenient yes but I really struggle otherwise

My hair is naturally dead straight and am always trying to get a curl/wave happening.

With HLO one of the items I always use is scissors - so how does that work?
