Booked LAX to SYD Feb 21st 2013 , QF12 A380.
Been allocated seats 36J 36K which are on upper deck.
Looked at various configs for A380 and some show this as Premium Economy.
I have booked Economy so must be on a reconfigured A380.
Does anyone know these seats? Are they the very back ones ?
Thanks.

According to the QF seat map for the reconfigured A380's they are the rear most seats.
Thanks Tony.

This may be a dumb question.

Do you still get served complimentary drinks on QF International flights in Economy?

Cheers

milehighclub posted some phote's recently. The last two show 36K/36K at the back. Note the side storage locker under the window:

I just got booked 36J&K on my flight home MEL-LAX on the A380. So are these seats the same as the economy downstairs or are they essentially Premium Economy? My seats were booked by AA, if they are already ticketed is it safe to say Qantas will likely let me keep these seats?

Thanks,

Yes

No

It the aircraft configuration stays the same you's probably keep them. Hoever, if an non-reconfigured 388 is substituted, those seats would no longer exist on your flight and you would need to be reallocated.

I suggest you keep a very close eye on them.

Was also interested in people's thoughts on these seats as I currently have them selected for Mel-LHS next may...

From those pictures it looks like they may not lean back very far? Less than other economy seats? My first time on the A380 so not sure what to expect!!

What about noise from the Galley? What sort of noise are we talking about??

None of the other upstairs seats are currently available to me except 35J/K but don't really want to pay the extra...

Theres two of us traveling so initially 36 J/K seemed like the best plan...

I don't believe recline is reduced at those seat in any way. FWIW these 388 seat actually slide forward slightly when reclining.

Thanks! Good to know!
Im rather tall... I assume the recline and the leg room would be the same on both the lower and upper decks?

Just wondered whether you or anyone else who sat or were nears those seats (36J 36K), could provide their take on it?

There is a possibility to prebook those seats on the flight and wondered whether it's worth paying the cost to do it.

Many Thanks

As the OP on this thread. I can report that the much anticipated 36J and 36K didnt eventuate. Apparently the A380 had problems in SYD which prevented it getting to LAX and was replaced by a 747 which got us LAX-SYD with a 21 hour delay. Btw, Qantas didnt bother to advise us until we went to check-in. Result- Still not flown A380, hope I get the $$ back paid for selecting these seats.

Hello all - I have searched this forum and cannot find anyone who has posted about having actually sat in 36J/K on the a388 in the reconfigured design where they are regular economy seats. I have the opportunity to sit here for one of my flights but am concerned that the proximity to the gallies and staircase (SeatGuru shows them as undesirable for this reason) would override the benefit of being upstairs. Does anyone have any direct experience with these seats? Thank you!

Thanks serfty! I saw those earlier in my search - still hoping someone has a first-hand "butt in seat" report ;-)

I sat in the equivalent seats on SIA a while back. Nice and private for couples, and the small Y section means that galley and WC noises are nothing like downstairs. Seats 35J/K have a load of extra leg room, but they don't have a window or side locker, so even if a little less recline in 36J/K, they are pretty good seats. And of course its only upstairs that you get 2-4-2 seating so feels much more like PE.

I would pick any upper deck seat over downstairs generally, it lacks the cluttered feel of the downstairs cabin but also the storage space which is a downside. Overhead bins are hard to come by.

Thanks so much OATEK! Gievn the choice, would you pick 36K over 71D?

If I was on my own, then 71D wins. But for a couple, a good two-seater upstairs is more enjoyable. The problem with Row 71 is that the seats in front (70E/F/G) are a little narrower. So the person in 71E has a narrower foot space and just seems to cramp up the traveller a little more than the average Y seat. As long as you are not too tall (ie. I am 186 which is challenging on the long sectors) then I would take the cosy two seater upstairs.

P.S. Took QF1 last year with the old config and snagged 71D/E and they worked out pretty well. Got a good 7-8hrs sleep on the long leg.

I'm on my own and not tall, I just usually fly business for flights this long and am dreading being in economy so I want to make the best of it. Right now I have 71D LAX-MEL (36 wasn't available) and 36J MEL-LAX. Assuming that doesn't change I'll get to do my own comparison ;-)
