Seat occupancy lower

Anecdotal data point on one flight but from a pretty accurate source (being a deadheading CSM sitting next to me with his ipad app open :) ).. the MEL-SYD flight he was to work yesterday had, at the time, 30 pax booked. The flight we were on was pretty full, but that is also because the flight prior was cancelled just prior to boarding as there was some issue with refueling (I definitely do not think this was one of those "consolidation cancels" but a definite tech issue.

He ventured that he saw a bit of that on some flights, but CNS was very popular it seemed all the flights he had worked were full (and going to assume some were 330's though did not ask specifically) - quite surprising given it's the lower season in FNQ right now. He opined that it was probably the pent up demand for people to get away to all those things up there to see, and perhaps a bit of a feeling of less cases due to being relatively isolated. Obviously nowhere is but probably in CNS or Port Douglas or further north would be less cases than in say SYD or MEL I guess.

Had a really great conversation actually.

Yesterday evening I flew SYD > ADL on QF having arrived at the airport by train at around 6 PM. The check-in and security lanes were largely deserted:

QF Business lounge was fairly busy albeit I was able to find a table to eat and get some work done in peace without having to keep my N95 mask on. Sad to see the departure board which practically only lists MEL as departures right now (perhaps Qantas should rename themselves to Melbourne Air 😂):

Yesterday's flight to ADL was very light. I'd say maybe a 20 perhaps 30% load if I'm generous. Yours truly was in J and there was only one other passenger in that cabin:

Needless to say the Maître d'Cabin was quite responsive providing this Roo with two bottles of Jet fuel:

What are the QF7xx_ flights (one of which was scheduled to depart after curfew)?
Come to think of it, this might be charter flights now that I think about it for Australia Open players heading down to MEL in advance of the match, as there are two tennis events occurring in Australia this month: the ATP Cup in Sydney followed by the Australia Open in Melbourne. Indeed the hotel I was staying at yesterday (Sheraton Grand Sydney) had banners out welcoming ATP players (I'm guessing that's probably one of the hotels they use). If this is the case, I hardly doubt curfew is an issue given all the other stuff tennis players are getting away with here.

The plans I had a look at were all frighteners.

And you very funny person re the curfew. Unless they provide their own aircraft, nobody is going to bust curfew for them.

If you are at SYD I'm curious about the 18:00 flight from Sydney to ... Sydney? Cancelled, but wondering what it could have been.

Over the past few days 6015, 6016, 6017, 6018 & 6019 have been A380 pilot training flights.
Fab. Instructions are to "please see staff" I wonder if anyone wandered up to staff and said 'hey I was supposed to be on that flight!'? 😊

Also is there a gate at T3 that can take the A380? Or are they leaving from 1A/B/C?

Remember when EK decided to join the “far queue” and took off from SYD post curfew without a dispensation.

They probably need a good laugh.

Not that I know of. The crew need to get through security etc, so it was probably easier to have them go through domestic, and then drive to the aircraft on the airside.

Hey I'm booked on QF 6018 and it says cancelled. When is the next available flight to Sydney as I don't see any other flights departing there today? And please can you assure me it's an A380 and not a dumpy 737. I'm travelling in F and want to arrive in style 😅

Remember to ask for original routing credits :)

My CNS-ADL flight over a week away been cancelled already. Changed to CNS-SYD-ADL and the CNS-SYD flight is currently listed as the A330 so not too upset 🤣
You also get an extra 40 status credits for the trouble of flying the SYD > ADL segment.

J cabin full on QF 454 MEL-SYD today, Y looked pretty full too.

Tonight's QF11 from SYD to LAX, A388 VH-OQB, only had about 125 booked in whY, so heaps of empty seats.

I gather this is common for many international flights in and out of Oz at the moment. So many are deciding not to fly overseas this calendar year, and seemingly not even domestically (though time horizon may be shorter).
