Seat availability / upgrade chance on SQ

I have to fly back to the UK for family reasons in early March - not quite an emergency (or I'd be on a plane already!), but I would feel a lot happier to be there. I've done some dummy bookings on SQ for Sunday 2nd March ADL - LHR, returning on Saturday 8th March, and also for late March as an alternative option. Based on the seat maps, some of the flights have only 1 or 2 unallocated seats (luckily, there tends to be at least one Preferred Seat left, which I'll snaffle if it's still available when I book in the next day or two).

However, for the SIN - LHR flight, it refuses to let me book a seat or even see the seat-map, saying that all pre-bookable seats have gone. Does anyone know what this means (is the flight over-sold, for example??) - should I risk being stuck in a middle seat?

I'm Velocity Platinum, so does anyone have any feedback on how SQ treat them? If the flights are basically full, do I stand a good chance of an upgrade? I assume that KrisFlyers get first dibs on any op-up's, but does VFF WP rate fairly highly behind them?

Thanks
