We flew Per - Sin on Scoot last night/this morning and going in my expectations were low but I was happily surprised about how pleasant ScootBiz actually was - of course this is only a sample of 1 trip. (I am going to do a TR on our trip to Spain, this flight being the first leg.)

After a very agreeable check-in experience our flight was about 20 minutes late boarding and leaving but ended up arriving in Singapore 5 minutes early. Many posters on here will be pleased to hear that Priority Boarding was strictly enforced with announcements and staff intervention - 3 people in front of us were turned around when they presented their boarding passes and sent to the back of the economy queue.

The seats are PE style with plenty of legroom and wide enough for large (fat) people like me. According to SeatGuru they are the same width 22'' as QF J seats on the B737-800 but have 1'' extra pitch - 38'' instead of 37'' There seemed to be plenty of padding and they were fine except for the headrest which was too low for me - but I have found this on a number of airlines so it was nothing unusual. We were in 1H & K.

The on-board staff were friendly - but they certainly don't walk the aisles looking to help. They checked our meal order and drink choice with us before take-off. Their English on the cabin announcements left something to be desired on occasions and we did have to ask for the Singapore arrival cards.

There was on-board streaming of Movies and TV - free for ScootBiz pax . It was adequate for our under 5 hour trip - and worked fairly well on my Samsung Tablet. Being an LCC I expected to be bombarded with offers to sell me all sorts of things, but it was very low key and actually far less bothersome than our intra- European J flights with Finnair - which seemed to have continuous shopping exhortations and the shopping cart in the aisle for a lot of the flight.

The included meal was, for me, a Singapore Chicken Rice, which was perfectly acceptable. It was about the size and standard of a hawker meal. The rice was fine, the boneless chicken pieces tender and the sauce spicy. It came with a small potato salad with 1 cherry tomato and a small bit of sliced table ham. There was a large choc chip cookie as well. You received an alcoholic drink or otherwise with your meal - your choice. We also received a small sealed plastic cup of water (I think we would have got another one if desired) - not generous but fine for our flight.

I am pretty sure that the window controls on the B787 were locked in the fully clear position for all of the flight, but as it was night and there was no moon it caused no problems one way or the other. The cabin lights were turned off for departure and arrival.

Considering we only paid around $320 each for a 1 way trip I thought we got good value for money. We enjoyed the trip much more than our recent ones in SQ or MH Y. The legroom and not so squeezy seats made all the difference. However, their current arrival time in Singapore of 0135 is not enjoyable - it was pushed back 2 hours after we had booked - and that timing would make me consider very carefully about using them again.

Thanks OzDuck.

We have done that flight a couple times now in Y, and found that to be mostly adequate, with the exception of the departure/arrival time.

For the price I paid (sale special) adequate was what I wanted and got:). As I said I mostly wanted the extra room and that was good.

I don't really understand the departure time though. Now we are older it hit us more and is a big disencitive to using them again. They seem to get good loads but obviously their route planners like the time. Perhaps part of a scheme to not cannabilise SQ fares?

Agree its quite acceptable at a good price.
Jetstar Business (or StarClass as it should still be called) is slightly better imo with better meals and unlimited drinks (versus the one on Scoot and I believe AirAsia, albeit it has a better seat)

Moa999 , unfortunately we don't have the option of Jetstar out of Perth.

degrade, no lounge out of Perth but out of Singapore you get to use the SATS Premier lounge - just like QR, if only for a max of 3 hours.

What sort of prices would you expect for say BNE-HKT or BNE-BKK in Star Class with the bundle?

I know the flights go from SYD or MEL but return airfares with bundles were upwards of $1500 each when I search for March/April next year and that wasn't including golf clubs. With 3 travelling that's a lot of money.

The Qantas airfares for 3 people for same dates was just over $2000 in total with Platinum luggage allowancefor all travellers. I obviously don't value perceived comfort that highly.

Hi John,

Not sure what perceived comfort is. I just rely on what my butt is telling me. It tells me it's streets ahead of QF Y.

Having flown JQ business class ("Star Class" is old hat) MEL-BKK a couple of weeks ago, I can say that it was a quite nice experience. JQ has lifted its game, and now the food/drink offerings are quite acceptable (yes unlimited alcohol, probably better than QF).

For someone like me (a solo traveller), it's probably the best option. For someone like you, perhaps not.

I'm comfortable in QF economy. I don't care too much for reviews of other airlines. At the price point available right now in my opinion there is no equal.

So do I go out seeking greater comfort that I'm likely to forget once holiday is over considering that I'm already happily comfortable?

It's not easy to calculate what one is prepared to pay for flights. When you're a solo traveller the decision is easy. Around 10 years ago I did 3 x return trips on BA World Traveller Plus as I thought that was good value for money in those days. With 3 travelling at todays airfares the difference between $2000 and $5000 is huge.

I would have said the same.
Unless I’m wrong, Scoot doesn’t provide additional snacks throughout the flight, unlike JQi B787 flights that does.

You are correct in regards to Scoot, all you get is what comes with your meal. If you want anything else you pay - inflated prices - for it

Probably the next question... do you get any status credits or miles!?

I believe you have the option of paying during the booking process to be able to earn Krisflyer points (not sure about SCs sorry)

That used to be the case. Now you get 1 KF point per SGD spent on base fare and add ons. No elite miles.

Booked SIN-MEL 11am day flight last week. Paid 180 for base fare (no addons apart from internet) 2 days out. Bid for J 170 (min was 160). Bid accepted 23 hrs out. Seat was extremely comfortable (I'm 6'2) and got plenty of work done on laptop. Would definitely try again for any day flight.

Agreed - flew Scootbiz last week as it was the only airline where the cost of a one way ticket is not crazy expensive (a rare good point of LC airlines which sell point to point flights ;-)) and we were impressed. Leg room was great (esp if you get the first row seats), staff were friendly and polite (though even with my understanding of the way they speak in Singapore, I struggled to understand a few of them) and overall we had a comfortable flight. Admittedly we would probably not fly them if the flights were overnight ones but we would fly with them again when travelling to Singapore.

The main thing putting me off flying them again to Singapore was the horrible arrival time of 01:35. Singapore to Perth times are fine and this is where, as you said, the one way ticket prices are useful. I would also would be unlikely to fly them to somewhere like Berlin - their recovery times in case of aircraft problems also appear to be pretty poor.

Can't argue about the arrival time from PER, but about two years ago we returned thru SIN from a trip to Europe with the 1215 Scoot flight being the last leg. We were delayed with a comms problem, and they advised us after an hour wait that they would give it one more hour and then make other arrangements. The hour passed, and we were then moved about 4 gates away where they had an aircraft ready for us. Just over two hours late into Perth. Any airline that has a spare 787 sitting around for the 'just in case' rule is OK with me.

Yeah that would be annoying...esp at the public transport options are limited at that time too...

We were delayed with a comms problem,

We were delayed out of Singapore due to there being an issue with the toilets on the left side of the plane and the delay was just over an hour. As i knew we were flying LC, i did not expect much from Scoot but we were pleasantly surprised when about 30 mins in, boxes of snack packs and water were delivered to the plane and all passengers received a bottle of water and a snack pack for free....completely unexpected. Fortunately the toilets were fixed (which personally was def more important - LOL)....
