We flew Per - Sin on Scoot last night/this morning and going in my expectations were low but I was happily surprised about how pleasant ScootBiz actually was - of course this is only a sample of 1 trip. (I am going to do a TR on our trip to Spain, this flight being the first leg.)
After a very agreeable check-in experience our flight was about 20 minutes late boarding and leaving but ended up arriving in Singapore 5 minutes early. Many posters on here will be pleased to hear that Priority Boarding was strictly enforced with announcements and staff intervention - 3 people in front of us were turned around when they presented their boarding passes and sent to the back of the economy queue.
The seats are PE style with plenty of legroom and wide enough for large (fat) people like me. According to SeatGuru they are the same width 22'' as QF J seats on the B737-800 but have 1'' extra pitch - 38'' instead of 37'' There seemed to be plenty of padding and they were fine except for the headrest which was too low for me - but I have found this on a number of airlines so it was nothing unusual. We were in 1H & K.
The on-board staff were friendly - but they certainly don't walk the aisles looking to help. They checked our meal order and drink choice with us before take-off. Their English on the cabin announcements left something to be desired on occasions and we did have to ask for the Singapore arrival cards.
There was on-board streaming of Movies and TV - free for ScootBiz pax . It was adequate for our under 5 hour trip - and worked fairly well on my Samsung Tablet. Being an LCC I expected to be bombarded with offers to sell me all sorts of things, but it was very low key and actually far less bothersome than our intra- European J flights with Finnair - which seemed to have continuous shopping exhortations and the shopping cart in the aisle for a lot of the flight.
The included meal was, for me, a Singapore Chicken Rice, which was perfectly acceptable. It was about the size and standard of a hawker meal. The rice was fine, the boneless chicken pieces tender and the sauce spicy. It came with a small potato salad with 1 cherry tomato and a small bit of sliced table ham. There was a large choc chip cookie as well. You received an alcoholic drink or otherwise with your meal - your choice. We also received a small sealed plastic cup of water (I think we would have got another one if desired) - not generous but fine for our flight.
I am pretty sure that the window controls on the B787 were locked in the fully clear position for all of the flight, but as it was night and there was no moon it caused no problems one way or the other. The cabin lights were turned off for departure and arrival.
Considering we only paid around $320 each for a 1 way trip I thought we got good value for money. We enjoyed the trip much more than our recent ones in SQ or MH Y. The legroom and not so squeezy seats made all the difference. However, their current arrival time in Singapore of 0135 is not enjoyable - it was pushed back 2 hours after we had booked - and that timing would make me consider very carefully about using them again.
