Hi all, I'll be flying into Changi Terminal 2 with Scoot flight TZ1 arriving at 7:00pm, then leaving next morning on 6:30am flight with Jetstar at Terminal 1.

My plan is to book a room at the Transit hotel within the terminal for the night. From reading the Changi website, it sounds like I should NOT go through customs OR collect my luggage upon arrival, but go straight to the hotel in Terminal 2 to stay the night. Next morning, go through customs, collect luggage from Lost and Found, and finally check in with Jetstar at Terminal 1.

I've tried contacting Scoot, Changi & Transit Hotel to confirm if my understanding is correct, but no one has been able to give me a straight answer.

Transit Hotel doesn't think I'll be able to stay with them, as Scoot requires me to collect luggage upon arrival. Then Scoot tells me it is up to check-in staff on Sydney side, so find out from them if this is at all possible. Changi Airport replied with only a few words confirming that yes I can't re-enter the transit area after going through customs and immigration.

Has anyone stayed at the Transit Hotel after flying Scoot? The FAQ only mentions JetstarAsia, Valueair and Thai Air Asia. I'd really appreciate any insight on this.

Changi Airport website transit FAQ

I AM ARRIVING ON A BUDGET AIRLINE FLIGHT AND DEPARTING ON ANOTHER BUDGET AIRLINE FLIGHT. CAN I GET BACK INTO TRANSIT AND USE THE TRANSIT HOTEL AFTER CLEARING CUSTOMS & IMMIGRATION?

If you arrive on JetstarAsia, Valuair or Thai Air Asia, you can stay at the Transit Hotel in Terminal 1. As the Transit Hotel is located in the Departure Transit Lounge, you should not clear Customs and Immigration upon your arrival in Singapore. We recommend that you make a room reservation with the Transit Hotel well in advance. However, you must still have the valid travel documents to clear Customs and Immigration to collect your check-in baggage from the respective airline handling agents' Lost & Found counter at the centre of the Arrival Baggage Claim Hall. It is advisable to do so at least 2 hours before you check-in for your connecting budget airline at the Departure Hall (JetstarAsia, Valuair or Thai Air Asia).

Quite a few people have done this no issue, the may problem will be getting a booking, often they can be sold out well in advance.

So if one flew in on SQ.. planning to fly out the next day (separate ticket) on say, UL.. it would be OK to rely on the Baggage hold arrangements?

That would make a future trip a little easier....

I did this recently (tho on QF & CX). QF wouldn't tag my bag through for some reason. On arrival I found a CX transfer counter and with the baggage receipt they handled it all. After the following flight I found the originally bag tag still on and it had been written over with the new details, so no need to find it - they retrieved it and it was safe.

Now as for LCC's, I'm not sure what the arrangements are but lost luggage is obviously worst case. Not sure I'd be comfortable knowing my bag is going around like that however. I thought the hotel could help in such arrangements. As for availability, you can stay in any terminal (and freely move between them all). The hotel in terminal 1 is right above the series of moving walkways and train connection to terminal 2. If you paid for an extra hour or 2, you could leave your carry-on in the room while dealing with the checked luggage landside.

That might be an issue if the LCC does not have checkin open until later in the early AM, without a BP you won't be able to get airside.

SQ will through check luggage to any IATA carriers (ie non-LCCs), so you can just give them your booking reference and flight number and they should through check you (unless you want to retrieve your luggage for some reason).

No...don't need the bags.... just don't want to arrive in CMB at 0015! If one books all the way from Oz with SQ that's the only choice.. and it isn't possible (IME at least) to get SYD-SIN on SQ then SIN-CMB on UL on ONE ticket... (UL have a convenient afternoon flight)

BUT.. the bags are the only problem.. so if SQ will tag them.. then it's a good plan.....

Your original idea should work fine. Just note that collecting your baggage later from lost and found is not an official procedure as such, so nobody you call would be able to confirm such arrangements.

One thing to be aware of is that in the Scoot Fee structure there is an entry for Unclaimed Baggage, which when claimed generates a storage fee.
