Scoot cabin bag new policy

There are many examples of paranoia during coronavirus but SQ subsidiary TR (Scoot) must take the cake.

It's just announced cabin baggage is down to three kilograms (remainder 'checked in free') to 'enable social distancing during boarding.'

Stupidity.

I don't want to take two hand carry bags!

A further reason to avoid this airline.

I think you will find several airlines now have this or similar policy.

Emirates for example: Laptop or purse only allowed in the cabin, everything else checked.

At the end of the day this will for now, affect very few AFF'ers. There are other very compelling reasons to avoid this airline, for most, and the most significant of those being denied boarding. They're not yet offering any through connecting services, and only offering services to PER ex- Australia, and thus the only travellers allowed to board are Singapore citizens and permanent residents of Singapore.

Another is its silly policy of us supposedly being proscribed from bringing our own food and drinks on board. It's about three years since I've travelled on this airline: it didn't seem to be enforced but passengers sneakily had a bite or two. Just a revenue raising exercise.

So no more comprehensive on board blogs if cameras and phones not allowed? Or are they still regarded as 'personal' items 'in addition' to the cabin baggage allowance?

Just a ludicrous policy.

I have happily used them just for the leg and shoulder room in ScootBiz/ScootPlus when connecting with a J flight in Sin. You get enough food and drink in that class for a 5 hour flight from/to Perth and I have paid little more than for Y on QF or SQ. Though their prices seemed to be on the rise just before the shut-down.

Plus, they definitely know how to police Priority Boarding

I think we've agreed to disagree on this before. But if they're charging $250 one way including luggage and the nearest competitor is over $1k return (or $700 one way), it's something I can live with . I actually like the "no food" policy, as it precludes people from bringing smelly curries on board in paper wrapping that smell out the plan and get over the seat trays. There never seems to be an issue with snacks. I would, for a long flight like SIN-MEL, take a sandwich, cut fruit and some sugary or salty snacks, and have never been called out (but usually eat when cabins aren't being patrolled). Sometimes would imbibe with an alcoholic beverage purchased on board and bring out a snack I've packed - and again no dramas.

Look neither have I been sprung, and like you I eat when cabin staff are in the galley or further down the rows, but it's just the fact that the airline chooses to "officially" make this an instruction.

I abhor curries and didn't realise this would be a problem as (at least in Oz) I'm not sure it'd be that easy to bring one on board, as they would, as you state, easily 'leak.'

So perhaps we don't really vehemently disagree re this.

I would have to fly Scoot from SIN to MDC as Silkair unloaded this route to Scoot which is very annoying. At least it's not a long route but I hope they go back to normal carry on bag rules soon.

Fantastic news - the one thing I hate about flying is inconsiderate people using up the overhead with their junk, expecially those who place it above my seat.

It's not 'fantastic' for those of us like me who shove our backpack under the seat in front of us, which gives quicker access to contents than in the lockers. But I appreciate your annoyance with the kitchen sink brigade, some of whom 'abuse' cabin bag regulations not just marginally but hugely.

Doubt I'll be flying them, but let me introduce you to my (previously) carry-on compliant camera case. Fits in the overhead lockers!
